Re: wtb porter cable orbital buffer

Tough to find used ones...most people buy one and keep it for life.

A very nice quality unit though. All the detailing buff rave about it.

Be careful though, electric buffers can do way more harm than good if you are not VERY careful with them. One of the few things worthy of reading the instructions on...heh heh.

Make sure and get the propper pads too. That's a huge part of it.

some have suggested that to remove wax, use something like Dawn - but only to remove wax, not regularly.

then, clay the scratches out. some have said that works better than ScratchX.

There are many posts by detailers. I'll try to find some of them.

Did you read that ClubArmada thread???

Re: wtb porter cable orbital buffer

yeah i did. Well another member bkw, whos good with the detailing tips, posted clay bars wont remove swirls or scratches. Scratch x is designed just for that purpose that why i was going to give it a try. i dont expect a new car finish with a 5 dollar product. thats what i expect 2 see from the porter cable

Re: wtb porter cable orbital buffer

Clay it,

Nufinish it,

Wax it...

I found that works really well.

Re: wtb porter cable orbital buffer

I have had the best luck with 3M products and really like their micro finishing glazes. Check with your local body shop supply house.

Re: wtb porter cable orbital buffer

Yeah, that 3M micro finish is a liquid like car wax that when applied and worked in, it breaks down to a water like consistancy acting as a lubricant for the pad. It does a very nice job with swirls. Again, I would recommend that you consult with a body shop supply professional to make sure your get the right product as there are different grit compounds in similar packaging. I would go very fine polish to start. It isn't cheap though as I paid about $35 for a quart.
