Question Importing a Titan

Hey,

Just wondering if any Canadians have imported a Titan from the US. With one Canadian dollar giving me 0.825303 USD its sounding very tempting to buy one from new-nissans.net. Especially considering I can get more truck (le cc tow + navi + OR package) and pay tax (gst) and still be below Canadian invoice (9% below MSRP [no navi or OR]).

There are 2 main things that concern me however;

-Factoy Warranty: Does anyone know 100% if this is transferable between USA->Canada. I'm sure someone must know the answer to this. Also has anyone recently moved from the US to Canada and had any problems with warranty transfer, be it either factory or extended?

-Daytime Running Lights: I've done some reading and apparently the DRL module socket is present on the US titan but it is not wired. I am thinking of an LE so could I get around this with the "auto" select on the headlights? If not any additional information would be great.

After spending 2 weeks reading posts here I am very excited to take a trip South of the border.

What about the Duties you would pay when bringing your new toy back?

there would be no duties involved to to the fact that it is made in the USA. Thank you Nafta. If it was made anywhere else (other than mexico) I would be paying a 6.1% duties custom charge.

I imported a Yamaha jetboat last year (they don't sell them here in Canada.) And luckily I only had to pay sales tax (7% gst) and I was not subject to duties or customs charges because it is made in the states. I also had to pay a $182 inspection / import / paper work fee.

The warranty is the only thing that really concerns me.

thanks for the feedback, anyone else?

this might help?

I didn't get very far into the reading, but there's lots of info at http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html

A guy I work with knows someone who brings used vehicles into Canada all the time. I'll see if he knows about new vehicles too. I agree, the exchange rate is not working in our favor right now.

Update: talked to someone at 1800nissan1 today. He said that there would be absolutly no problem in importing a titan from the US to Canada. He stated that both factory and extended warranty would be 100% honored in ALL of North America regardless of where it was originally purchased.

This is very good news for me as I would have to wait 6-8 months locally just to get one here locally. I don't mind travelling down to Washington and putting a few extra miles on. The trip to Carls Jr. alone would be worth it.

Thanks for the link!!!

Nope, not yet, I am trying to sell my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder SE here locally in Edmonton, Alberta first.

I think I might have to lower the asking price a bit, but I've taken such good care of it I don't want to GIVE it away.

Its a shame too cause I was really looking forward to going down to Washington as I just had 10 days off work.

I'll be sure to write up a detailed post of my trip.

I had a really good time this time last year going to california for 7 days, I even managed to catch the early heat wave.

Thanks for the support

spider.

Thumbs down

Update: Well, I finally sold my pathfinder and luckily new-nissans.net had the EXACT truck I wanted on their lot. A week ago I gave them all my information and a $500 deposit to hold the truck until I got down there.

After the deposit was given they didn't want to honor the $1500 USD rebate, apparently only given to american citizens. I was understanding about this, cause I was still getting a deal at ~$2000 more. Then late last week, the day I am supposed to leave for washington they REFUSE to sell me the truck because I am Canadian. I don't blame them though, as it sounds like they wanted to sell the truck but too much pressure from above not to make the sale to a Canadian citizen.

Now I am in a real mess. I have no vehicle to haul my boat and the local dealer is telling me 9 weeks for an LE CC. Might have to look at something else even though I am DEAD set on a titan, and really want another nissan product.

Anyone have any ideas? There are no used titans for sale around me and the only ones on ebay are 04's.

Hey guys. I'm from Pennsylvania and I just got back from Ontario with my Titan. I've never been in this section, but dropped in here after my visit to see if they were even sold in Canada. My relatively plain Titan XE got some crazy looking double takes as I drove it around the Niagra Falls area. It was really an odd feeling. I didn't see any other Titans for 3 days there, and just based on the number of people squinting at it to see just what the heck it was, I figured they didn't sell them over there.

The bellhop at the hotel asked my wife what kind of vehicle we had when we were loading up to leave. When she said "Titan" he asked what that was. She just told him it was that big black truck.

Why not find someone to buy it for you and pay them a fee? I'm sure someone would be willing to do tyhis if you have the loan set-up in advance and a legal contract draw up, maybe worth it to pay someone 700-1000 to do this, with the 1500 rebate. just a idea worth exploring.

This is definatly what I am looking for. Someone in either Montana or Oregon to buy the truck and make a quick $1000 USD. I have approched a couple of Auto Brokerages and they aren't too keen on the Canadian aspect.

Anyone interested in helping out a fellow titan freak.
