New or Rebuilt Tranny

What do you guys think! Looking for a place in Edmonton to rebuild tranny. Nissan won't do a thing for me. Dealer is only giving me a few $$$ off price of new tranny, Re build is 2000.00 less than new. But it will be the first one done in all the shops I have called so far. Let me know your thoughts on this. 2004 - 120,000 KM's
Thanks

Re: New or Rebuilt Tranny

I guess a rebuilt wouldn't be bad if you wanna save some dough, can't really say for the titan, but have had some rebuilds in the past that were okay. Make sure it has a warranty though just in case.

yeah make sure it's got a warranty. I have never had an issue with rebuilds.

Re: New or Rebuilt Tranny

Did you get a print out as to the cause? You had 120,000 kms or 75Kmiles correct? Any flush & or filter change during this time? Who did the routine filter flush maintenance? Are you frequently towing heavy, were you in OD during? Have you tried another dealer? I may have missed it, but I don’t recall another Titan on the forum requiring a trans. rebuild.

Re: New or Rebuilt Tranny

No, to a print out, the dealer is just telling me the tranny is gone. Losing pressure. Been on the phone all day, to different people the tranny apparently has Fibre gaskets, all the rebuild guys think the gaskets have cratered and are plugging up the filter. Once u turn the truck off the paper floats down and the truck will run again until it blocks off the filter. They are quoting me $1700.00 just in labour to only replace the tranny not to rebuild it. I'm trying to find out book time to change out tranny. Does any body know the book time to replace the tranny not to rebuild? The dealer has done all maintenance on the vehicle. They have given me a few dollars off a new tranny but have obviously up'd the labour to cover the discount on the new tranny. I'm getting so angry. They keep saying they can't tell me what's wrong other than it keeps loosing pressure. Its been in there since Oct 30 and Nissan won't do a thing about it. I think I'm going to have it towed to a rebuilder. Only hwy km's no towing. I drive over 100 km each day to work. All hwy. No traffic. Have in no way abused the truck. That is why I think I'm so angry.
