CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

I would like to hear from someone who has a CAI system on their vehicle and live either in the Canadian Prairie provinces or in the northern US where winter temperatures are regularly lower than -25C or -10F. I would like to know how the cold temperatures affect the operating/running conditions of your vehicle with a CAI system installed.
My understanding is that the vehicle would require a longer period to reach ideal operating temperature and thus gas mileage would suffer dramatically.
Any advice that you can provide would be appreciated.

Re: CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

I don't think that's true -- the air and fuel still ignites in the cylinder and produces heat which warms the engine. I don't think the temp of intake air will affect how long it takes to warm to normal operating temp.... (i used to live in Iowa)
Running without a thermostat will increase the warm-up time and at -10 it will probably never get warm. LOL

Re: CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

My 04 Titan seemed like it took a little longer to warm up with the CAI. I took it a little easier in the winter time on it due to the cold temps. Started like a champ in -28 F with the CAI the winter I had that truck. Curious to what others thoughts are.

Re: CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

I haven't noticed any negatives during cold weather. I haven't had any dramatic drops in fuel economy, everything has been working as it should. I do usually let my vehicle warm up for quite a while, as fuel has been free for me for the past few years so I didn't concern myself with wasting it, I just wanted a nice toasty cab to sit in. Sorry I can't help you more.

Re: CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

So agreed by most, the CAI isn't a factor in colder weather..

Hijacking the thread here.....

But for everybody's statements of motor temperatures, is anybody using an engine block heater on their vehicles?

Are they aftermarket parts, or inclusive on the Titans?

Is that a standard feature for Canada? It's not stock here, as far as I know.

I'm not sure as for all of Canada, but it was listed as standard equipment on my window sticker. I know for some makes, you still have to add it on up here as a dealer installed accessory, but this wasn't the case with me. It may have something to do with mine being an LE also? I'm not to sure......

Re: CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

Some of the Northern USA states get pretty darned cold...The boys from Minnesota or Wisconsin have some pretty harsh winters..
I'm sure they would have CAI and blockheater requests just like the Canadian cousins to the north...

My 04 Titan is a SE model and the block heater was part of the OME and not an option

Re: CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

I put a magnetic stick on heater on the lower oil pan. Katz makes it, I hadn't had too much luck with those lower radiator hose heaters. The cord is a perfect length to run straight to the right tow hook hole.

Re: CAI operating in COLD winter conditions

Just thought I would bring this back from the archives.

We had a few –40c days in the last little while and I haven’t found that my truck has a hard time warming up at all, even with my CAI.

Thanks - From one Winnipegger to another - That's good to know - What part of Winnipeg do you live ?? Me, I'm in St Vital behind the SouthGlen Shopping Centre on St Anne's Rd.

Did you have the CAI installed or did you do it yourself ???
As I'm not that mechanically inclined, I'll be looking at buying the CAI and having it installed - Do you have any recommendations as to the best place to go for this ???
