Rough stuff on my hood

my hood is covered with some rough to the touch stuff. i don't know if it's pine pitch or what. they're very tiny little specs all over it. i washed it with some meguires soap (my usual car wash) and a microfiber mit like always, but it wouldn't come off. did it 3 times, still there. feels almost like sandpaper. what can i use to get this crap off?

Get some Adams detail spray and a clay bar...

i was thinkin about a clay bar. i see turtle wax ice makes a liquid clay bar.. ever try that? that ice wax and polish is great.

Rubbing Alcohol is great for removing sap.

I don't recommend the liquid clay bar...It acts more like an abrasive cleaner.

Save your money....A cheap solution for use with your clay bar is to take 1/4 ounce of your carwash soap and add it to a quart squirt bottle....Stays wet longer and helps your bar move easily over the surface and rinses clean.

I agree with everyone about the Clay bar. If that doesn't work though, you might consider getting some rubbing compound, or some of that scratch fixing polish. Just don't concentrate on one spot for too long, and make sure you wipe it all off so it doesn't eventually eat through your paint. Hope it works out for ya.

You shouldn't need rubbing compound or anything like that. I had the same thing on my hood, like Skyboi said Claybar, water & soap in a spray bottle; spray clay, rinse repeat. Should come right off!

Sky..I had to order my stuff on-line with Adams and Mothers but I got all the stuff on the way and I'll let you know how it works out....thanks

Cool... Hey, don't be too aggressive....try a small spot just to see how you have to work it in order to give you the results you need.

I've seen guys go gung ho on the whole hood....only to find out that they missed the boat... Then I'd smack em on the buff $$$ cause they had a dogs breakfast on their hands and I had them by the nads.

Work a small section about 6" square and see if you're getting the results. Then go for it....PM me if hit China..

Skyboi...not that I am doubting you on the comment about the guys going gung ho and then having to buff their mistakes, but working in a body sshop, a paint shop (as a painter and a helper), and a detail shop,I have to ask...WHAT THE HELL KINDA CLAYBARS WERE THEY USING!!!!!?????

I am reminded of the scene in the first MIB when the spaceship crashes onto the truck, and when the alien dressed in the 'eggar' suit comes in, the wife asks "what was it eggar", and the alien replies "sugar", and the wife says "I've never seen sugar do that!"


I've never seen a claybar do that!

Hey Justin...I was referring to a post up the page ^^^^^by $particus. ^^^^^^^

He mentioned rubbing compound.

As soon as I hear the words "rubbing compound" I see a blotchy messed up hood.

I can't tell you how many times I've said to a client "you tried doing it by hand right?" And they all said the same thing... "Yeah, I tried a cleaner wax and a little compound"

It's usually just bad advice...Someone says to them. "Just rub it out with a little compound".... BUZZ...Wrong answer.

If you're a painter, you know as well as I that you cannot get the same results with your hand that you can get with a machine because the machine never gets tired or lazy.

So that's what I was referring to...

alright.. i picked up a meguires clay bar kit. comes with 2 bars, some of their quick detail spray to use as lube, and a sample thing of wax or polish i think.

any do's or don'ts? tips etc? i've never clayed before.
