What to Get to detail it right:

Basic instructions at the end....

1. 2 5 gallon buckets...1 for wasing the truck, 1 for washing wheels, tires and wheel wells
2. 2 Microfiber/lambswool wash mits... 1 for washing the truck, 1 for the wheels tires and wheel wells
3. 1 Good quality clay bar
4. 1 gallon "Good" quality car wash soap...High foaming
5. 1 Soft bristle Wheel brush 1 hard bristle tire brush.
6. 1 cake of quality wax that can easily be removed even after it's baked on in the sun...
7. Good quality tire dressing
8. 1 giant sponge cut into smaller "palm" sized pieces to apply tire dressing...Never spray directly from the bottle always load up the sponge and apply with it.(overspray) apply a thick coat and let sit to level.
9. Kerosene works great as a tar remover and is relatively inexpensive. Put a little car wash soap in it to keep it from drying on your truck.
10. Dry your truck off with a leaf blower...no scratches, wet towels or chamois.
11. Wipe out the jambs and apply some tire dressing to the rubbers

Those are the basics to get you started here's some instruction to do it right.

1. Start by blasting off any dirt with some pressure.
2. Apply tar remover and let it sit...you will see the tar start to run. Apply more and don't scrub. keep doing it till it disolves.
3. Always wash the top sections first and work your way down...Heavier coarse dirt is near the bottom. Rinse your mits often. Start at the roof, rinse, then the glass, rinse, then the hood, rinse, doors down to the moulding, rinse, grille & front end, rinse tailgate, rinse, mouldings down. Change mits for the tires wheels and wheel wells.
4. Check the paint by feeling it while it's still wet...any little bumps or things stuck to it? grab your clay bar and dip a little car wash soap on it and rub your paint till it's smooth. you may nee to rewash those spots...maybe not
5. Dry with the leaf blower... no scratches, wet towels or chamois. Works fast too.
6. Apply wax with damp applicator...do the whole truck...let it dry.
7. Remove wax...Start at the roof and work your way down use a microfiber towel
8. Dress the tires...Sponge on the dressing...roll the truck a half tire turn and get the top of it.
9.REFRAIN from putting dressing the black trim on the mirrors, truck bed top and other places. If it rains, the dressing will run down your paint and reqiore a repeat of the washing process. Best to keep those surfaces clean and dry or a very light coating with a wipe down.

Hope this helps anyone interested. I used to own a detail center and did many cars each day.

I have to admit the leaf blower trick works pretty well.

Yeah man...There are a quite a few great products that have emerged in recent years.

MY ADVICE: Use products that are easy to put on and get off. This way you'll want to detail more often and won't break your arms trying to rub off concrete. I can wax on and off my Titan in 20 minutes. Sweating but I'm done. Ready for a beer and a walk around.

Re: What to Get to detail it right:

Just a thought, be careful with that tar remover, I've permanently stained paint and especially plastic/vinyl parts on one of my older cars. The stuff dripped down after I sprayed it on and I didn't notice in time.
