I'm in the market for a dual action buffer/polisher but don't know which to go with. Any advice? I've looked at porter cable which I think is the same as the meguiars.

The "Ultimate Detailing Machine" came out last year as a new and improved version of the porter cable 7424. That's the one I went with. It is capable of higher speeds thus can remove harsher scratches in clearcoat. Has worked great for me.
Yeah...The Porter-Cable P's talking about is a great Semi-Safe buffer for the average person wanting to use light glazes and waxing...It doesn't spin rapidly so there's no real danger of burning edges or stripes.
Just don't buff anything black unless it's painted and clearcoated.
I work in a body shop, and I used to be a painter, and I use a Blue Point variable speed buffer with Norton Liquid ice foam pads and System one foam pads, and have never had a problem...I even had to take a resto 75 corvette from primer to paint (single stage BLACK polyurethane enamel) to wet sandand polish...came out scratch free! The car looked like it was liquid black, even in direct sunlight!
I have been working on my truck all week long...a few panels a night...there is just not enough time in the day to get done everythign I need to do!
Thanks for the help. I just ordered my PC 7424 and also Adam's essentials kit with pads, wax, and polishes. Can't wait too start buffing.
Excellent choice I have both the 7424 and all kinds of Adams products from our Titan meet there last month.Great products and great guys to deal with.
Anybody want all my old polish and waxes?
i just purchased a pc7424. did not use adam(should have, wasnt thinking) but i got the same type package but the pads were a little different. anyways, cant wait to use it.
i got mine from here. they dont sell their stuff, but other manufactuers. its also a great resource for info and videos.

thanks for the link and help. i definately could have saved some money by getting it from adam or tools plus, but i got a pretty decent package that would have cost the same no matter where i bought it.
i also got thiswhich should be standard for anybody w/ a cap/topper. should make cleaning easy.

Thats a good price there. Havent found anything close to that yet. Just kindof scared on the whole rotation part. I mean i know it's a dual action, but in my young days i really boogered up a car and i dont want to do it again. I guess the polishes and waxes play a big part as well.

you would have to be using a real aggressive pad and compound to mess up a clearcoat finish w/ a dual action orbital. most pads and polishes are light cutting. 3M makes some pretty aggressive compounds though. a dual action is not going to take out heavy swirls but it will make them a lot less noticeable.

Oh yeah,I screwed one up pretty bad also.
This one though is fool proof, tried it at Adams, they prove it is safe by literally pressing down so hard on the hood it stalls. Also able to buff any edge or corner.Seriously this thing is really cool
