How do you stop streaks on black paint?

So I washed my truck for the first time this weekend. I then proceeded to use a spray wax on it that I use on my other cars. Unfortunately I was left with streaks all over the truck! It looks great until yuo get up close and see smears and streaks! Help! How do I get rid of these and have them never come back?

Spray wax? You mean like Mequiar's Quik Detailer or something?

I use that and it works great. Streaks are from a residue or from trying to apply it in the sun or if the "skin" is too hot. If you use a quality product, you shouldn't have any streaks.

That spray wax is junk man. I know this truck is a beast, but you should really use a better product on it.

Re: How do you stop streaks on black paint?

It's good for a quickie cleanup after a wash if there are spots left, though. It's not intended for a full protection sort of thing.

Re: How do you stop streaks on black paint?

It was a spray wax called nanowax. I normally do the full wash and wax with quality products but I was lazy and wanted to give it a little extra something before going to my girlfriend's family for Easter. I have used it on my Esprit for a quick shine with excellent results so figured it would have been good here too. It was nice out and I did it in the shade but the smears and streaks were crazy! I think tonight after work I will go over it with some Black Magic or Meguiars like I should have done in the first place.

Majestic Blue is a nice color, no doubt, but you cannot beat the look and shine of a clean black car/truck. Sorry! I even swore to myself I would never buy another black vehicle again but when I saw my truck sitting there on the lot, I had to have it!

On the bright side, the truck was the talk of the day. Of course I got the stupid "But what about gas?" comments but everyone loved it. It was a pleasant ride there and back as well.

Re: How do you stop streaks on black paint?

Try going over a small area with a paste wax...let it harden and wipe off...This should remove the smearing. the problem is that there are anti-bonding agents in the liquid waxes that keep them liquid. these can be very "greasy" and cause smearing...especially noticable on dark vehicles..

Go with a 100% carbauba wax....Apply it uniformly to the entire vehicle...wipe off.

I could wax a black vehicle in full sun on a hot day and get perfect results everytime.

Good luck and let us know what you did to fix it.

Please advise or suggest the best wax for a black vehicle. I used to have some stuff i got from a dealership that was THE best wax I ever used. It applied in a liquid(green) form and came off with little effort. And it could have easily went a year without another application. Maybe it was a carnuba based? I thought about going to a detail wholesaler to see what they can offer.

I have had really good luck with "simply Z best" wax. It also hides light scratches and swirl marks well. It's all I use on my harley.

Re: How do you stop streaks on black paint?

In my business, I used a wax called "Carnauba Bay" It was relatively inexpensive but was tried and true. when i was waxing 5 vehicles a day...I didn't have time to play games with wax...A smeary wax job a 5pm would kill me. When I tried this stuff all I could say was i couldn't believe how well it works. EVERYTIME!!

I can't tell you how many black vehicles I waxed(after buffing) in the direct sun.

The first black vehicle I did with it was a Mercedes 500 coupe and the phone rang. I came back to find the wax "baked on" from the sun coming through my shop window...I grabbed a towel and started taking it right off...Worked excellent I still use it to this day...Never a problem!

Here's a link I found to get some...I have no affilliation with them. But there's a fresh tub in my detailing bucket right now... http://www.chem-quest.com/carnauba.htm

Re: How do you stop streaks on black paint?

The stuff I want is definitely not a "over the counter" "consumer" item. it's for professionals and is wholesale only. Just don't know the name of it. It made waxing halfway enjoyable.

Thanks for the suggestions.

All I can say Roy is that I can wax my Titan on and off less than a half hour...I think you would love this wax.
