Re: Water Spots

What kind of clay bar are you using?

Try some Adam's Detail Spray and a MF towel. I had used Adam's stuff on my dad's car and my truck when we had some water spots from a freakish rain cloud and they came off.

I guress after 3 years of washing its a bit late but my paint still looks pretty good and shiny.

My problem with water spots is I wet the truck and wash it, but im just not fast enough. For example, I wash the hood, then I move to doing the front side. By the time I finish washing the side, say 2 minutes, the hood is already dry and spotted (or some other part of the truck that I wet)... The truck drys really fast here in CA in the sun, and I don't have a shady place to wash or wax the car. I continuously spray it wet but since a panel can dry in less than 2 minutes its easy to spend too much time washing a part and letting something dry out.

Maybe get a leaf blower and turn it on after every panel I wash right away? Towels are easy to store, a leaf blower wont fit under my bed hough or in a drawer...I just bought 2 large microfiber towels from target for $20 I think this might be more practicle for me than the leaf blower. I somehow scratched one of my panels up pretty good with a bath towel the last time, and I heard shamies are even more prone to leaving scratches.

Honestly I have been keeping the truck dirty lately, I think its less likely someone will break into it and steal something when it does not stand out all blingy. Lots of thefts in the neighborhood lately, maybe I shoudl let the paint degrade more...
Your not using a good carwash soap then. You should have something that is really sudsy. Since switching over to Adam's stuff I havent had a problem with spots.

Crap.. your close to the shop. You should meet down there sometime so we can show you Adam's product line.

I'm using Meguire's this time around, previously I had used Mother's with good results, though I never had water spots THIS bad. I'll take some pics so you all can see what I'm talking about.

Re: Water Spots

Here are some pics I took today. The first one of my rear quarter panel is *after* using Meguire's clay bar + quick detail spray *and* cleaner wax... The other pics are of my wheels and the chrome on the bumper. Thankfully this is really only along one side of my truck, but it's enough to be a pain in the butt to fix!

Re: Water Spots

Yo...Hooligan, Looks like calcium deposits from the water. That is nasty if i ever saw it.

Here's what you need to do.

1. Get a "post wash" surfactant spray that will create a sheeting action and lay the water bubbles down.
2. Take your nozzle off the hose and float water over the top of the truck.
3. Then hit it with a leaf blower to dry.
4. This should help alot with the hard water spots.

Re: Water Spots

Thanks for the tip, only thing is I'm trying to remove what's already there, not prevent them. The spots are due to sprinklers. Now that the truck is parked in the garage I don't have to worry about the sprinklers, I just have to get the spots off. What a pain it's become!

Re: Water Spots

I have the same issue. My truck is black and sprinkers at work have put water spots on my truck. Hard as hell to get off.

Just tried that, didn't work.

The only thing I've found that works is Lime-Away (tried in a small, inconspicuous location) but it says right on the bottle not to use on painted surfaces. I'm guessing because it will actually etch the paint in the process of removing the calcium deposits.
