Re: Water Spots

OK, thanks for the advice. I didn't want to jump into doing that without asking. Saves me a trip to the glass shop!

While we're at it, I'm looking at either a Galaxy Black or Majestic Blue Titan; unfortunately I've got to park the truck outside, and if I don't run my sprinklers, my grass is toast.

Is Majestic Blue as much of a pain as black to keep up?

YEP!...unfortunately most dark colors are highly reflective and show dirt along with wear and tear more than light metallics do....

Which is partly why I chose Granite... Really hides dirt and spiderwebbing and always seems clean....

But if you like the dark colors, by all means go for it.

Sky, sorry, I am not trying to nitpick, but this is not accurate. Glass melts around 1600C, there ain't a plastic around that tolerates this well enough to mix. The plastic sheet is in the windshield only and is sandwiched between 2 pieces of glass, so you will not be able to scratch the plastic.
Safety glass is 'safe' because it breaks into small uniform cubes instead of shards.

Now, all this being said, all the rear glass is coated. This coating is actually another glass with different chemistry, and it is a bit softer than clear glass. So sometimes it is possible to scratch these coatings, and caution is in order.

Just wanted to interject, Carry On...

Re: Water Spots

I use those Mr. Clean Magic Erasure to get the water spots off my windshield, they work great and I haven't noticed any scratching or etching. Also I use Turtlewax Ice Spray Detailer after drying with a leafblower...(thanks Skyboi)

Re: Water Spots

Try a spray bottle, cap full of car wash, fill remainder with distilled water. After drying truck spray water spot areas and wipre dry.
Use same sollution for removing bird crap, bugs, etc...

I have been using the leaf blower for 4 years now and it works great. Yes, folks look at you funny. Wear ear plugs or head phones. I also use the 200 mph type. The better your wax job the better the blower will dry. You can easily tell when it is time to apply wax, the water being blown off (be nice) will streak and not dry easily.

Re: Water Spots

So, I'm having a hard time with some water spots on my truck. My garage ended up a little too messy so I couldn't fit the 3 vehicles inside, which meant my truck was left outside...in the driveway...next to the sprinklers. Now I'm stuck with a bunch of hard water spots on the lower half of my truck. I've tried the clay bar, which worked wonders in previous vehicles, and it's not doing the trick.

What other tricks are there? If I'm going to have to pony up the bucks for a machine then I might as well just look for a good local detailer to take care of it for me.

Any suggestions?

Re: Water Spots

I have the Meguire's clay bar kit, comes with a microfiber towel and the quick detail spray. It's not doing the trick.

Re: Water Spots

Crazy I might try the leaf blower if I can find a cheap one. I don't have a place to store a shop vac....

I guress after 3 years of washing its a bit late but my paint still looks pretty good and shiny.

My problem with water spots is I wet the truck and wash it, but im just not fast enough. For example, I wash the hood, then I move to doing the front side. By the time I finish washing the side, say 2 minutes, the hood is already dry and spotted (or some other part of the truck that I wet)... The truck drys really fast here in CA in the sun, and I don't have a shady place to wash or wax the car. I continuously spray it wet but since a panel can dry in less than 2 minutes its easy to spend too much time washing a part and letting something dry out.

Maybe get a leaf blower and turn it on after every panel I wash right away? Towels are easy to store, a leaf blower wont fit under my bed hough or in a drawer...I just bought 2 large microfiber towels from target for $20 I think this might be more practicle for me than the leaf blower. I somehow scratched one of my panels up pretty good with a bath towel the last time, and I heard shamies are even more prone to leaving scratches.

Honestly I have been keeping the truck dirty lately, I think its less likely someone will break into it and steal something when it does not stand out all blingy. Lots of thefts in the neighborhood lately, maybe I shoudl let the paint degrade more...
