messed up my rim

i was tired of the tire shine slinging all over the side of my truck so i started useing black magic matte finish 9 garreenteed not to sling) . it worked only problem was it ran alittle when i first used it and i can;t get the runs off so i got some black magic wheel cleaner, it didn't work either. today i was cleaning the rims so i used a spounge from the kitchen, the kind with a scuff pad on one side. well the scuff pad worked very well until the rim dried. now its scrached up all over. do the stock se wheels have a clear coat on them? and how can i fix this problem?

Re: messed up my rim

Ouch.....Been there done that....

Ok so here's where you're at. You scratched the plastic coating(hopefuly you didn't go through to the metal) There are a few solutions to quick fix but not permanant fix the problem. The permanent fix is to take all the wheels and get then "re dipped/sprayed"

So here we go... First way is to clean the wheels with a heavy duty degreaser and dry them completely. Next tape and paper off the tire so all you see is the rim. Make sure you also cover the back of the rim so nothing gets to the inside of the wheel. Use some old paper bags here and stuff them behind.
Get a can of good quality clear spraypaint and apply a few "THIN" coats. Let dry between coats.

Here's the deal...With time and exposure to the elements, the clear paint will start to flake off...Don't panic...Go to the local car wash and pressure wash the failed clear paint off and reapply.

Please let me know how you made out....Good luck!

Re: messed up my rim

I think I might paint or powdercoat them a gunmetal color which is better? I can get them painted for next to nothing. I have a friend that paints.

Re: messed up my rim

Duplicolor makes a spray paint and clear that is designed specifically for and works quite well on wheels. I used it on my old sentra wheels with amazing results.

You might want to try using four ought steel wool with detail spray on your wheels before you go through the paint process, that works really well too.
