Goo off-wash it afterwards...

Re: How do I get Tar off of a White 04 Titan?

I used a bug and tar remover from Wal-Mart when it was fresh. But if it is like mine (been on my truck for months), I need to use a clay bar to remove it.

Re: How do I get Tar off of a White 04 Titan?

To be honest... One of the best and safest tar removers is KEROSENE. or GAS.

Gas drys too fast....

Fill up a spray bottle with some and add 1/2 oz of carwash soap to keep it from drying out...

After you've washed your truck of course....Mist the whole truck down and wait a minute....This will allow the tar to slightly run (so you can see where it is).

Next, go section by section with a soft nonabrasive bug/tar sponge.

If you can, let the product do the work...Don't be too eager to scrub it off...Let the stuff work for you. Work your way over the truck.

When done, Give it a final wash and hit it with a clay bar to get off any fallout and you're ready for wax.

There are some "citrus based areosol degreasers" that work really well also, but if you have a lot of tar you'll go through several cans. @ $6.99 a can...Kero or gas is cheap

Good luck and let us know how you made out so we can help other members.

Just thinking that hitting a truck with kerosene or gas and then having something ignite the fumes = flambe Titan!

Did it for 10 years...never had a problem. A little soap and rinsing with water works perfect...

I wouldn't take a smoke break til you were done though...

Re: How do I get Tar off of a White 04 Titan?

Also, you can use WD-40. It will take tar right off and isn't quite as volitile as gasoline.

WD-40 will strip down your clear coat and paint.
I wouldn't do it. i would follow the gas + soap method.

I didn't know that about WD-40. I used to use the Wal Mart bug and tar remover. If I remember right, the ingredients for that were the same as WD-40, so I switched. I usually re-wax after cleaning the tar off. Does anyone know why gas or kerosine is safer? WD is mainly toluene if I remember right.

Re: How do I get Tar off of a White 04 Titan?

Experiment all you want..... But if you want an inexpensive tried and true way to easily remove the tar from your vehicle without excessive harsh scrubbing, Take a quart bottle of Kerosene and mix a half ounce of carwash soap in it and go.

If you want to loosen all the things that have an adhesive base to it like say..... Your trim mouldings, mudflaps, pinstripes, emblems...I could go on...

Then I say go ahead and experiment

I'll run a thread on how to re-apply those things

Proper tool for the job!

AMEN TITAN BRUTHA.... Like I've said before....The right tool for the job is everything...

Glad it as easy for you as I said it was....

Now tell me something.... You sprayed it on....Let it sit for say 15 -30 seconds and saw it start to melt...Then it happened.

You smiled and said..."Hey it's working....Skyboi was right...This is awesome"
