I tried the toothpaste yesterday and it worked pretty well. Did it twice with decent results. Took some pictures, but you know how it is trying to take pics of something like that with the lighting and all, didn't turn out well.

I second the Plasti-X or however you spell it. It worked great on my beater's headlights.
