Re: Rust spots on White Titan paint

Allot of these rust specks are actually rail dust. Lots of vehicles reach the showroom via rail. The metal weels on these rails causes these small chips of rust to be embeded in your paint, most visible on white vehicles. The only way to totally remove is wet claying vehicle, waxing actually seals them in. Thats why the paint surface of a brand new vehicle may have a roughness to it. I have always clayed a new vehicle , followed by paint sealant and a good coat of wax. Don't pay fpr dealership sealant, you can do it yourself. Evironmental fallout that we cannot see is also an enemy of paint. Very important wash once a week and wax often to maintain paint. What we cannot see is the problem. I'm a fanatic, wash weekly, followed by spray wax and monthly paste wax.

Re: Rust spots on White Titan paint

I took my Titan in to the dealership for a few issues and I brought up the "rust" spots on the grille. They are from the Magnesium Chloride that is used on the roads in the winter. Apparently everybody has this problem. The chrome rims on my wife's minivan had spots I couldn't get off no matter what I did. I didn't put 2 and 2 together. I think the spots on the rims are due to Mag Chloride also. Once the spots are there on the grille you're stuck with them.

OK then, MY "rust" spots are from Magnesium Chloride.

Re: Rust spots on White Titan paint

No problem. I can see where a vehicle in the south could have these spots due to rail dust. I have it on the grille and the center caps on the wheels.

Apparently this "rust" problem is fairly common in the states that get snow and use the Mag Chloride. More info:

Tundra owners seem to be having a similar problem:

I can see this happening on metal. But why is it happening on the fake chrome grill?

I really have no idea what its even coming from, We had a plenty of white cars/trucks and none of them had any rust like that? I hear claybar takes it all off
