Steering Wheel gunk....

Is there a way to take off the black gunk from the leather steering wheel?

Re: Steering Wheel gunk....

best and safe way to clean your steering wheel and the rest of the interior is warm water with alittle dish soap using a micro fiber cloth.

This is the correct way.....If you use anything harsh you will take the color right off the wheel and will be left with very odd looking light spots around all the wear areas.

You should get a steering wheel cover that you can toss every so often. This way it takes the dirt but you keep your wheel in better shape.

2 or 3 cleanings and you"ll trash your wheel.

Re: Steering Wheel gunk....

I use "Lexol" leather cleaner. Good stuff and it's available OTC. I've also used "Woolite" at a 10:1 ratio or 6:1 if it's really dirty (water: woolite) on a MF towel with great results.

Your best bet though is to get a cover as Skyboi suggested. I picked up one from Pepboys and couldn't be happier.
