I would cover your wires to your battery as well as the electrical box on that side as well.

If your intake and air sensor is open, I would cover those.

I've used an article like this to assist me.

Re: Advice on cleaning engine compartment

a couple of times a year I clean my engine. Squirt it with biodegradable Simple Green, brush where necessary, hose it off. Don't do it when the engine is hot.

I've never covered anything. Just use the spray setting on your hose and rinse it.

Re: Advice on cleaning engine compartment

I clean my engine quite frequently... Everytime I wash/deatail my truck I do the engine. I do not cover anything up when I do mine, I am just careful not to spray too much water directly on the air filter and alternator. Since I do it so often I do not need to use any degreaser, just high pressure rinse. Then I use spray wax to clean and dry everything up.

Thanks! I don't use any degreaser simply for the fact that it never gets/gotten that dirty... So I don't need anything but some pressure water

I second the use of Simple Green... spray, let soak, high pressure wash/rinse...
