a couple of times a year I clean my engine. Squirt it with biodegradable Simple Green, brush where necessary, hose it off. Don't do it when the engine is hot.
I've never covered anything. Just use the spray setting on your hose and rinse it.

I clean my engine quite frequently... Everytime I wash/deatail my truck I do the engine. I do not cover anything up when I do mine, I am just careful not to spray too much water directly on the air filter and alternator. Since I do it so often I do not need to use any degreaser, just high pressure rinse. Then I use spray wax to clean and dry everything up.

the inside of your engine bay looks way cleaner than the interior of my titan...maybe i need a car wash. Yout truck looks sick!
that is clean! Any reason why you don't use any degreaser?

I second the use of Simple Green... spray, let soak, high pressure wash/rinse...
