need tires

Hello - I currently have a set of BFG 285 65 18 KO D load range on my 2005 Nissan Titan 4x4 with Billstein shocks upgraded and suspension sitting level. These tires have factory diameter and keep my speedometer accurate. Looked at same brand / size replacements - but the new ones only come in a stiffer E load range. What is available today that will give me the same on and off road performance - without loss of ride quality for long distance travel. Would not mind a little wider tire - but wish to keep factory ride height with excellent off road traction. I am a Camp Health Director in summers - and am off pavement with this truck 3 months out of the year - rocky and muddy terain. Was happy with my BFG's - but now they are worn after 30K miles. Suggestions please. - Thanks - Roy R

Thaks for the post! We would like to help you with your tire needs.

I am going to assume that you are still running your factory wheels which are 8" wide. Based on what you are looking for dimension wise and load range wise, the Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10 sounds like the best tire for your needs. This tire has a very similar tread design to the Nitto Terra Grappler but in the 285/65-18 size, has a D load range. This tire uses zig zag sipes which not only increases longevity by stabilizing the tread block, but also increases snow, ice, and wet performance. I'm a little surprised that you only got 30K miles out of your BFG's. Usually people see over 50K out of them. I would expect you to get over 30K out of the Hankooks. Here's a few links with more detailed information.

I hope this information helps!

Re: need tires

YES - I am using the Nissan factory 18" rims - How sturdy are these tires you are recommending? The factory Goodyears were poping 1 - 2 tires a trip up to the camp I work at - sharp peices of stone straight thru the tread. never had any problems with the BFG TKO I replaced them with when I got smarter. I probably would buy them again - if I was not afraid of a total loss of ride quality with the E load rating making them so very stiff without a full load.

The ATM has been approved to fit on your 8" wide wheels.

This tire is still relativly new but so far I have not heard or read of any complaints on this model poping easily. Considering the LT construction, you shouldn't have any issues with that.
