Transponder coding?

I have only one ignition key for my 2008 Titan and wanted to obtain a second one for emergencies. I purchased one and have programmed the remote opening/closing but need to have it coded so that it will actually start the vehicle.

My main dealer have refused to do this and so, I need to find a way to do this myself, or bypass the system entirely. Does anyone know hot to do this, or even if it is possible?

Thanks in advance

Re: Transponder coding?

As long as you can prove ownership (title, registration, etc.) you should have no problem getting a good locksmith to program this for you. If you can't prove ownership, you have other issues.

Re: Transponder coding?

Thanks for the quick reply,

I have all the docs for the truck and can prove ownership 100%, but the locksmiths here do not program keys at all...

I've contacted Nissan USA to see if sending the key, with the documents, to them for programming is an option. I'll advise on their response

Re: Transponder coding?

If you have the original key code tab (was on one of the keyrings from the factory - looks like a small aluminum tab with some numbers on it) you may be able to order a pre-programmed key that will match exactly, directly from Nissan.

Re: Transponder coding?

Nope - didn't get that when I bought her... Someone said the code may be on the ignition barrel?

Re: Transponder coding?

You might be able to get it via the VIN? Maybe not, but seems like that should link to the build sheet/code somewhere in the bowels of Nissan???

Re: Transponder coding?

OK, I'll give that one a go. I've sent all the info to Nissan, so hopefully they'll be able to do something...

Thanks again.

Re: Transponder coding?

Pardon my ignorance, but what's Uprev, and would this allow me to bypass the whole transponder chip issue?

Re: Transponder coding?

I'd love to, but we don't have any in Panama... Perhaps a Spirit flight up to Miami may be in order. If I take the original and the blank, will they be able to do it in store?

Ace hardware can clone keys that trick NATS?? (Nissan Anti Theft System)

OP- Uprev is the ecu reflash tuner that most guys use, its different from a handheld like Bullydog or superchips in that its completely tuneable like a full standalone, but using the stock ECU. Its the only one that can permanantly disable DTC codes in the ecu (for headers n such) and one of the additional functions that protuners have access to is completely disabling NATS. Its necessary for engine swaps, using different ECU's, etc, but if you want to start your truck with an unprogrammed key turning off NATS would fix that problem as well.

Re: Transponder coding?

None of them either I'm afraid. I'll check to see if I can find a store with the necessary kit close to Miami International and take a flight up, or get a friend with Copa Airlines to do it on a turnaround...

Re: Transponder coding?

Do you have Lowes or Home Depot around you? Ace Hardware? Most of these places will have a transponder duplicator...although my local walmart said they couldn't do my 2011 (who knows if they are right).

Are you sure you asked every local locksmith? I found a guy who does unlocking and mobile key cutting. He can cut and program my key for $45. Extra keys are $5 a piece.

But worst case, send that key up here somewhere and it should be no problem. Probably looking at $80 max just by taking it to a dealer. My dealer said $15 to cut, $50 to program, and $30 for a key. I bought 2 keys off ebay for $12.
