Good evening y'all, my 2004 has had this on going issue that has gotten worse. It used to be a loud pop through the speakers when you'd start the truck up. Now, the pop seems to have resided yet there is what seems like static or interference in the radio (doesn't matter if the volume is up or down) it seems to be at a constant volume. When I turn my bright lights, turn signals, roll my windows up or down, or even brake it will add to the sound or, best case stop the static for only a moment. This does it with CDs/AM or FM radio so it doesn't discriminate on the source. Which I was origionally wondering if it was maybe the antenna, but since it does it with CDs, this kind of eliminates that right now IMO.
Has anyone ever seen or heard of such an issue? Before I go to pulling the Center console and jumping in head first, I'd like some input from knowledgeable people like y'all. Perhaps it could be a corroded ground? If so where would a central ground be to start looking? Other ideas? Thanksin advance!
i've heard on similar issues with guys running HID kits and after market radio amplifiers that were not grounded properly, sounds like a ground issue to me, hopefully its a simple fix
I've searched, and cleaned every ground I can see/get to. Pulled the HU to make sure there wasn't anything back there and that the ant. was properly seated. All appeared good. Any other ideas? When the car isn't turned over, just in accessory there is no issue, which makes me curious if it is a motor ground issue.
To test the grounds: get a length of 14 gauge (or larger) wire. Attach alligator clips at each end. Start the truck and do some action (such as lower/raise the windows) that result in noise in the radio. Connect one end of your test lead to some metal on the truck chassis and the other end to the chassis of the HU and see if moving the windows (or whatever) causes the same noise (or at least a decrease in the noise). Repeat the process with the test lead connected to ground and the amp chassis. If one or both of these tests result in a change in the noise then you know the source of the problem (bad ground).
You also need to check all the wiring at the battery connections to make sure the battery posts are clean and there is no corrosion on the battery connectors. Look at the wires to make sure there are not a number of broken strands where the connectors and wires join.
If all this testing yields no results then the problem is likely in the amp.
