I'n sitting at the my camp in Mississippi impatiently waiting on tomorrow's deer season opener. Decided to take a few pics while i was bored.
Last year i bought a 93 Isuzu pickup to use up here. No reason to tear up the T in the woods. Well, over the summer I decided to have a little fun with it. Painted the truck, camo'd it then added the roll in bedliner. While i was bedlining, I decided to line the bumpers and the rocker panels. Let me know what ya'll think.

And after seeing how nice this came out, I'm seriously considering doing the bumpers and rockers on the T! I'm a little nervous about slapping bedliner on a $30k truck. The Isuzu only cost me $800, so it was alot easier.

I had seen this deer on camera and wanted her taken out for two reasons, but I thought it was two different deer. Come to find out the same deer had two issues. The first was a picture I posted a while back of a deer with a leg injury, but when we shot her I didn't know this was the one with the leg injury. The reason we picked her was because of the large lump on her neck. So we go both of the deer we where after with one shot. We saw 4 does tonight, this was not the oldest one, but I felt it was the right one to take out. He shot her with a .243 at about 60 yards, and she went about 40 yards. Blood at the site he shot her at, but no other blood until where she fell. Unfortunately she was only 2.5.
I think with the dry mouth I have (chemo and radiation earlier this year), my teeth stuck to my lips...LOL.

Well all the time in the woods paid off this weekend.
As I was leaving the woods yesterday morning I noticed a BIG buck about a 1/4 mile to my south coming my way. I get my bow back out and watch him for a minute. He is evidently following the scent from some does. He crosses over into the field I'm hunting and travels east just to the south of me so I go to the north end and go down into the trees hoping to intersect him. Sure enough I walk right up on him and he's so interested in finding those does that he doesn't even notice me. After stalking for a minute I finally get a 20 yard shot on him. I hit him way far back, but I could tell that he was going to go down so I follow him. He finally goes down and I claim my big boy!

12 points and field dressed at 138 pounds.

Our muzzleloader season opened this weekend. I was tempted to stay at home and hunt here at the house but knowing that the wife and I would have a better chance of at least seeing "somthing" we decided to head over to our hunting lease in the middle part of the state. Glad we did as we had a great hunt. I'm not a "trophy" hunter by any means, but taking a buck with a decent rack is just icing on the cake. Bucks with large antlers are few and far between where we hunt, although these two bucks wouldn't be considered to be trophys by some they were plenty big enough for us and we were darn proud to take them.
I killed my buck right after daylight on opening morning. I let a smaller buck pass within 20 yards and was starting to second guess my decision and then I heard footsteps coming from behind me. I could tell he was a decent deer but he was angling away from me. I quickly grabbed my deer call and gave a few "grunts" he must of been the king in his territory as he didn't hesitate to come and investigate the other buck. He stepped into the clearing about 50 yards to the right of me and I put the cross hairs on his chest. At the shot all I could see was a huge cloud of white smoke and heard him running, but he didn't run far and piled up in a dry creek bed. The wife on the other hand was trying to get a shot at a pretty nice six point. Just as the deer was coming into range a pack of stray dogs ran her deer off. She was dissapointed but I assured her we would try again that evening and hopefully her luck would change. Unfortunatly we didn't see a single deer that evening. The next morning found us both in a ground blind in another part of our lease. We were sitting side by side with her looking in one direction and I in the other. Around 8:00 She whispered "deer" don't move!! It was all I could do to keep from turning around when she again whispered, it's a buck and he's coming right to us. She slowly raised her T/C Thunderhawk, took aim and squeezed off the shot. I spun around in time to see her deer making a dash for the next ridge. I thought she had missed but thankfully I saw him stumble and fall within sight. After a couple of high fives and a quick hug we went to look at her first deer of the year. As you can see she was one proud huntress.
It was a great hunt, the weather was perfect if not just a bit warm. We hunted again this morning as we are allowed three bucks, I was so proud of her when she let a spike walk by her on our last day of the hunt.

Here are a couple of pics of our deer. BTW my buck was a 4X3 hers should of been a six point but he had 3 points on one side and a spike on the other.

This last weekend, my wife flew her and I up to Oregon to try our hand at some steelhead fishing with my old man (for my 28th birthday gift - she is awesome!). From what everyone says these fish are some of the hardest fighting and trickiest fish to catch. On the walk out at dawn saturday morning, I saw good fish rise so I quickly got down to the river and took a cast. Not more than a few cranks of the reel into it and my line was hammered. It fought hard but turned out it wasn't a steelhead. We're not sure exactly what it was so i've attached a photo. If anyone knows what it is let me know. I emailed Oregon fish and game to see if they know.

We fished all day Saturday, I caught over a dozen fish, I caught a few small Bulltrout, some Rainbow trout and a few Redside trout. Mid day everything had slowed so we took a break and ate some sandwiches. As the sun broke early afternoon we started making our way back up 3.5 miles of river we had walked down. We hit a few key holes in hopes of a big steely. About an hour before sundown I saw another big fish roll. I made my way to it quietly and took a cast, WHAM, my pole slammed down and my drag started peeling. The fish instantly darted up out of the water. I had a big steelhead on and it wasn't about to be caught. I worked the fish for a good 3-4 minutes in and out, every time I thought I was gaining on it, it would strip line out again. I whistled for my pops to let him know i was hooked up, but before he could get their the fish threw my hook. I was dumbfounded, mad and excited all at once.

I knew the light was right and I knew we had about 1.5 miles more river before we would hit the truck so I started to work my way back up through the next few holes.

About 1/2 hour later WHAM, I was hit again. This time I was determined to get this fish in. Up out of the water three times she jumped. The line kept peeling out and I coaxed her back in. At one point she buried her head deep in some river weeds but I managed to slowly pull her out. Once I got her closer to the bank we tossed her up onto shore and put her in the bag. Here's a few pictures. At home she measured 22 1/2". She wasn't huge but a tasty steelhead none the less.

I need to do this more often.
