Hackers broke into the servers at a prominent British climate research center and leaked years worth of e-mail messages onto the Web, including one with a mysterious reference to a plan to "hide the decline" in data about temperatures.

The Internet is abuzz about the leaked data from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (commonly called Hadley CRU), which has acknowledged the leak of 61MB of confidential data.

Climate change skeptics describe the leaked data as a "smoking gun," evidence of collusion among climatologists and manipulation of data to support the widely held view that climate change is caused by the actions of mankind. The files were reportedly released on a Russian file-serve by an anonymous poster calling himself "FOIA."

In an exclusive interview in Investigate magazine's TGIF Edition, Phil Jones, the head of the Hadley CRU, confirmed that the leaked data is real.

"It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago," he told the magazine, noting that the center has yet to contact the police about the data breach.

TGIF Edition asked Jones about the controversial "hide the decline" comment from an e-mail he wrote in 1999. He told the magazine that there was no intention to mislead, but he had "no idea" what he meant by those words.

"That was an e-mail from ten years ago. Can you remember the exact context of what you wrote ten years ago?" he said.

The Telegraph has posted some of the more scathing excerpts from these emails, which the newspaper suggests points to manipulation of evidence and private doubts about the reality of global warming, though the much of the scientific language in the e-mails is esoteric and hard to interpret.

Others suggest the comments are simply "scientists talking about science." In an interview with Wired, Kevin Trenberth, head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, points out that "if you read all of these e-mails, you will be surprised at the integrity of these scientists."

Still, one notable e-mail from the hacked files clearly describes how to squeeze dissenting scientists from the peer review process:

"I think we have to stop considering Climate Research as a legitimate peer-reviewed journal. Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to, or cite papers in, this journal. We would also need to consider what we tell or request of our more reasonable colleagues who currently sit on the editorial board…What do others think?"

On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”

The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.”

I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill.

In other words, the bill spends two pages describing would could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.)

Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu.

How much does it cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office: $100 million.

Well isn’t that nice. Certainly Louisiana voters won’t be disappointed at getting a bigger slice of the ‘pie’. And correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Rep. Cao receive a similar concession from Democrats in the House?

The worst thing about all of this is that we’re supposed to be a nation of laws. Those in congress made a vow to uphold the Constitution of these United States. They don’t even bother crossing their fingers anymore when taking that oath. They openly scoff at anyone who asks how anything they’re doing is constitutional. I know – it’s so old fashioned to talk about the Constitution. But at what point will the lawlessness of our legislators lead us into complete chaos?

The nanny state is at it again. Lolifornia and it's environazis have passed legislation banning the sale of "power hungry" HDTVs. If you haven't heard of this, come out from under your rock and read this:

California Cracks Down on Power-Hungry TVs - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News - FOXNews.com

So now electronics manufacturers are going to have to deal with having to build separate tvs for lolifornia, just like the automakers have had to do for decades. When are the corporations going to wake up and realize THEY have the power to stop the environazis? It's so simple it hurts to think it's not being done. Now, in the midst of an economic crisis, lolifornia and their hippy environazis are costing major corporations BILLIONS because they think they're special. You know how you stop this once and for all? STOP CATERING TO THEM!

Ford, come on out, and tell them to get bent. Make the models that can be bought in every other state, and save yourself some money by not having to build one that's CARB compliant. I would also say Chrysler and GM should too, but since they are owned by the government, we all know that will never happen. All the foreign automakers should also follow suit. It's good for business.

Same goes for manufacturers of yard equipment. Stop making CARB certified lawnmowers, weed eaters, blowers, et all.

And the electronics manufacturers...the regulation on you hasn't gone into effect yet. So before it costs you money, TAKE A STAND. Hold a press conference, tell them it's great lolifornia wants to choke the economy to death, but you're not gonna play ball. Let them know right now that you will continue building tvs the way you have been, and you will not make a special model for lolifornia.

You do that, and you will witness first hand history being made. You will witness the free market FINALLY pushing back against opressive government regulation. And maybe, just maybe, you will witness the people of lolifornia removing their heads from their @$$es and realizing they aren't special after all.

American taxpayers are being forced to fund thousands of lawsuits filed against the federal government by environmental organizations -- with their lawyers clocking thousands of hours and charging fees of up to $650 an hour.

Quote:

The U.S. government hands out millions of dollars each year to various environmental organizations to help protect fish, wildlife and other aspects of the environment. And every year, those same groups spend millions suing the government over everything from forest policy and carbon emissions to water quality and wolf habitats.

When the CIA failed to replace 30 percent of its fleet with hybrid cars, the Arizona-based Center for Biological Diversity sued because "its members and staff are impacted by the health effects of oil production," according to the filing. And when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service failed to review the status of slick-stop pepper grass, the group ran up $200,000 in legal bills.

Who paid the attorneys fees? The American taxpayers did.

In the lucrative world of environmental law, the biggest defendant is the federal government, and taxpayers foot the bill. The nation's ten largest environmental groups have sued the government more than 3,000 times in a nine-year period, according to legal fund the Western Legacy Alliance, an Idaho-based legal fund that defends ranchers and farmers.

"The federal government is paying environmental groups to sue the federal government," Karen Budd-Falen, a former government official and an attorney in Cheyenne, Wyo., affiliated with the Western Legacy Alliance, told Fox News. "Taxpayers are paying for litigation, but not over substantive but procedural issues."

Procedural issues pertain simply to instances in which the federal government missed a deadline or lost the suit on a technicality, as opposed to substantive issues that are argued before a judge and require a ruling on a dispute or question.

In most legal cases, each side pays their own legal bills. That is not the case, however, when nonprofit, public interest groups sue the federal government.

Under the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA), Congress allows needy individuals and nonprofit organizations to recover attorneys fees whether they win, lose or settle. And while the original intent was to guarantee access to the courts for the poor, a dozen of the nation's wealthiest environmental groups are using the law.

The Environmental Defense Fund has shelled out $69 million in 67 lawsuits over the past nine years. The National Wildlife Federation has spent $97 million on 233 cases. The Wilderness Society has spent $36 million on 150 cases. And the Sierra Club has spent $46 million on 983 cases. That's just a partial list of lawsuits against the federal government over the past nine years, according to the Western Legacy Alliance.

"I absolutely believe that these cases are more about gathering attorneys fees than 'damages,'" Budd-Falen told Fox News. "There is no evidence that one dollar of these fees awarded to any group has gone into on-the-ground habitat or species protection actions.

"A majority of environmental groups use in-house attorneys, but they are requesting private attorney rates, in some cases up to $600 per hour," she said. "These fees make money for the organizations to be used to fund more litigation."

In one case, the Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund and the Western Environmental Law Center challenged a forest service regulation. There was no trial, and the agency did not contest the claim, which was resolved administratively. Yet seven environmental attorneys claimed 930 hours of work and $479,000 in attorneys fees, with one lawyer seeking $650 an hour.

In just one month, The WildEarth Guardians filed petitions to list 700 species as endangered. Each petition requires U.S. Fish and Wildlife to produce and publish a scientific response in 90 days. If it misses the deadline by one day, the agency can be sued -- and it usually loses.

But according to members of WildEarth Guardians, these suits help, rather than harm, the American people.

"We step in when the government doesn't do its job. Our work is vital to protecting clean air, clean water and native wildlife," John Horning, executive director of WildEarth Guardians, told Fox News. "The claims that our work is frivolous is totally unfounded. We only do work when the government doesn't do its job.

"Every day that we can delay development or ensure that the government complies with both the letter and the spirit of the law is a day where we feel like the public interest is victorious," he said.

WildEarth Guardians has filed at least 180 lawsuits in the federal district courts and at least 61 appeals in the appellate courts.

Now, the growing number of cases is beginning to attract the attention of some lawmakers in Congress.

Rep. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., has written to the Department of Justice asking for an investigation, pointing out that much of the money being paid comes out of the Equal Access to Justice Act fund, which Congress set up for the indigent and public interest groups to recover legal fees.

Right now, the government does not account for how much is paid out to whom or for what reason.

"These are taxpayer dollars that are being used by the federal government to compensate people who have sued the federal government. I believe that taxpayers have the right to know who those people are and how much they've been paid," Lummis told Fox News.

"I think we are creating an incentive for environmental organizations to develop shops of specialists that are extremely well compensated, just to sue the federal government and recover attorneys fees."

The Sierra Club, the Center for Biodiversity, the Natural Resources Defense Council, The National Wildlife Federation and Earthjustice all refused to comment on the findings of the Western Legacy Alliance. But Horning maintains that despite their multimillion-dollar budgets, these environmental groups still qualify as the little guy.

"The government sometimes forgets to serve the little guy, and the little guy is sometimes the voiceless, whether it's public interest in clean air, water or wildlife."

But rancher John Kirkbride sees it differently. When groups sue the federal government over grazing rights, he is forced to hire an attorney to protect his rights but can't collect his legal costs because he files as "a friend of the court" and is not a named plaintiff.

"Taxpayers are footing the bill for a lot of this. I can't help but be angry this is happening," Kirkbride told Fox News.

"These interests have become very proficient at stalling, delaying and impeding progress. That is their stock and trade. It is a cash cow for them to be able to take advantage of this (EAJA) act."
The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday night injected race into the national debate on health care, saying any black lawmaker who votes against President Obama's sweeping overhaul isn't really black, the Hill newspaper reported.

"We even have blacks voting against the health care bill," Jackson reportedly said at a Congressional Black Caucus reception Wednesday night honoring the 25th anniversary of the civil rights leader's run for president.

"You can't vote against health care and call yourself a black man," the Hill reported him saying.

The remark was a clear shot at Rep. Artur Davis, D-Ala., the only member of the CBC to vote against the House version of the health care legislation.

Davis refused to return fire against Jackson.

"One of the reasons that I like and admire Rev. Jesse Jackson is that 21 years ago he inspired the idea that a black politician would not be judged simply as a black leader," Davis said in a written statement to the newspaper. "The best way to honor Rev. Jackson's legacy is to decline to engage in an argument with him that begins and ends with race."

Jackson later reportedly said that he "didn't call anybody by name and I won't."
The defense attorney has already filed papers for dismissal because the jury pool is tainted because the attorney general and the president both say they are guilty. So much for innocent until proven guilty. And they said even if they are acquitted they can still hold them (not forever) but for a very long time within the laws. REALLY where in law does it say you can hold someone as long as you want after they have been acquitted?

I stumbled upon this and thought yeah, puzzies for the most part because I see a whole lot of people letting others as well as the government walk all over them without so much as a WTF? Many folks these days just bend over and take it in the azz like that's the way it's supposed to be and they can't do anything about it if they tried and have all but given up on being something other than a sheeple.

Tell 'em Clint, we'll miss you when you're gone.

My father had a couple of kids at the beginning of the Depression. There was not much employment. Not much welfare. People barely got by. People were tougher then.

We live in more of a puzzy generation now, where everybody's become used to saying, "Well, how do we handle it psychologically?" In those days, you just punched the bully back and duked it out. Even if the guy was older and could push you around, at least you were respected for fighting back, and you'd be left alone from then on.

I don't know if I can tell you exactly when the puzzy generation started. Maybe when people started asking about the meaning of life.

You wonder sometimes. What will we do if something really big happens? Look how fast -- seven years -- people have been able to forget 9/11. Maybe you remember if you lost a relative or a loved one. But the public can get pretty blasé about stuff like that. Nobody got blasé about Pearl Harbor.

I remember buying a very old hotel in Carmel. I went into an upper attic room and saw that all the windows were painted black. "What was going on here?" I asked the prior owners. They said they thought the Japanese were off the coast during the war.

The Korean War was only a few years after World War II. We all went. But you couldn't help but think, F*ck. What the hell? What have we gained? One minute you're unleashing the tremendous power of nuclear fission, and then a few years later you're jockeying back and forth on the 38th parallel. It seemed so futile.

I remember going to a huge waterfall on a glacier in Iceland. People were there on a rock-platform overlook to see it. They had their kids. There was a place that wasn't sealed off, but it had a cable that stopped anybody from going past a certain point. I said to myself, You know, in the States they'd have that hurricane-fenced off, because they're afraid somebody's gonna fall and some lawyer's going to appear. There, the mentality was like it was in America in the old days: If you fall, you're stupid.

You can't stop everything from happening. But we've gotten to a point where we're certainly trying. If a car doesn't have four hundred air bags in it, then it's no good.

I had an issue before the council. I remember getting up, and there was a lady who sat and knitted the whole time, never looked up. "No, no, no," she said. And I thought, This can't be. When you're elected, you have to at least pretend like you're interested in what people are there for. How do you have the chutzpah to just sit there, not pay attention, not interact at all? It needed to be corrected.

Winning the election is a good-news, bad-news kind of thing. Okay, now you're the mayor. The bad news is, now you're the mayor.

It's making sure that the words "public servant" are not forgotten. That's why I did it. 'Cause I thought, I don't need this. The fact that I didn't need it made me think I could do more. It's the people who need it that I'm suspect of.

I'm not one of those guys who's been terribly active in organized religion. But I don't disrespect it. I'd never try to impose any doubts that I might have on anyone else.

Kids piercing themselves, piercing their tongues -- what kind of masochism is that? Is it to show you can just take it?

It's sad that there is still a big black hole, both where the Trade Towers used to sit and also where the truth should be. It's a painful memory for most all of us and it's certainly easy to blame the people put in front of us as "the guilty parties" and a target for our fear and hatred but what did really happen?

I'm not talking about conspiracy with regard to why the towers collapsed or who crashed the planes but rather who stood to gain and more importantly, who had prior knowledge because as we all know, it's awfully tough to keep a secret, especially one of any consequence. I have watched all sorts of footage about the conspiracy theory surrounding 9/11 and most of it can be explained away one way or another, but given the greed that permeates our society and infects every facet of our lives because of our government and large corporations these days, it's tough to argue the fact that people are as greedy now as at any point in history and as the old saying goes "follow the money" if you want to know what's really happening or has happened.

Thanks go out to Honeykeeper for posting this which I was unaware of because like many folks, I had stopped looking and was pretty weary of the whole ordeal and had succumbed for the most part to the popular version of what happened and although the questions raised by this video are not irrefutable proof of anything, even if just a small fraction of it is true which it most likely is, couple that with the sorted past of some of the characters mentioned and the video certainly raises a whole lot more questions than answers and can't just be explained away with a conflicting scientific theory or video.

I had stopped researching the 9/11 tragedy once I had seen all the evidence or at least thought I had, but if there is one thing I have learned over the past year, we can't trust the Federal Government to do what's good and right with regard to the citizens at large and I'm not saying any particular individuals had prior knowledge of 9/11, but I am certainly saying it looks as though someone must have, because there was just too much money being made betting against certain things and for others with massive put and call options on Wall Street as well as other connections with regard to Deutchebank and Blackwater that aren't mentioned in the video.

Yes, there are a lot of coincidences alright and coincidentally, we are all a lot poorer but not just in our bank accounts, but also in the trust accounts we kept substantial deposits in that allowed us to disregard indiscretions on the part of our representatives. I however am officially closing my trust drive-through widow to the government for good, or at least until there are more honest people than dishonest ones on the Hill and I certainly won't trust a large bank or multi-national corporation again, probably not ever, because there is a war going on out there and like it or not, most of us are definitely expendable to the greedy elite.

Trucks in Iraq (picts)

While clearing out my camera's files, I found a few photos of some of the different looking trucks found on FOBs in Iraq. I didn't bother taking photos of any fullsizes, because they are all standard American fare (F150s, F250s, & GM 1500, 2500, but no Dodges.)

I'm an aviator, so I didn't get up close and personal with the stuff outside the wire. The staple of the Iraqi truck market is the "Bongo" over-cab style work truck, usually blue or white. They do have some compacts, but it's all stuff you can't find in the states.

Almost all the trucks were small 4-cylinders with manual transmissions. They even had Nissan Pathfinders (same style as in the states) with manuals.

Ford Ranger, same name but a different truck. Has a rear axle with a drop out third member similar to the Toyota's.

Notice the utility style bed with hooks. This was a common style bed on the trucks.

Mitsubishi, forget the name. These are some ugly trucks.

The Nissan Navara (Frontier.) Looks almost like what we have here. They also have the newer body style, but I didn't get a photo. They all have that ugly hood ornament. Check out "Fuel Injection" decal on door. The interior is usually a hideous maroon color.

Holy crap, 160 hp!

The Toyota Hilux. This is the newer style, not nearly as attractive as the more utilitarian older body. Fantastic graphics!

2.7 liters of Variable Valve Timing power!

Just in case you were wondering, I didn't see any Titans or Armadas. There are plenty of Land Cruisers of various ages, a few Land Rover Defender variants, and Mitsubishi SUVs.
