Tire Patch...$70.00!!

Can you believe that! I went to the goodyear shop off Lk Underhill behind the Lowe's and they had a 2 hour minimal wait so I scheduled for 3pm to be quick in and out because I couldn't leave the truck.

I come back at 3pm and at 330...they decide to tell me they cant do big mud terrains. I said interesting because I've had 37's patched no problem. The guy proceeded to tell me not to talk about stuff i have no clue about. I just said give me my f-in keys so i can leave.

I go down the road to Tire Kingdom...those guys quote me $70 because they are mudders!!! I said they are street radials why would it be triple your regular amount. He goes well you need it done so pay it or go buy the kit at discount. I left...still truckin around with a nail in my tire.

That is one reason I buy my tires from Discount Tires. I paid 40.00 extra for each tire to have a warranty on them. If they cant fix/patch the hole, they give you a brand new one. I have already had one replaced. Not a bad idea considering these tires are 305.00 a piece.

Re: Tire Patch...$70.00!!

i just don't understand how a normal tire is $25 and just because its "a mudder" they tripled it.

I have only driven lifted trucks with big tires and have never run into this before.

Re: Tire Patch...$70.00!!

My neighbor takes his chevy to his cousins VW dealership and puts on his big tires so theres a machine to do it. Either way 70 bucks is a nasty price.

Re: Tire Patch...$70.00!!

That doesn't make any sense. A patch is a patch on any tire as far as I know. If anything, it would be easier to work on since it's bigger and easier to get in it once removed...

I think they just didn't want to do it. And if they did do it, they wanted to upcharge you just becasuse they can.

Have you tried Discount Tire? I used to work there and we never turned away any tire unless it was damaged beyond safe repair.

I did the same thing. And that price also includes free rotation/balance for the life of the tires...

Re: Tire Patch...$70.00!!

part of the issue is the difference in tire size and weight

I don't agree with the $70 but that is what places are doing now. Anything 18" or bigger will be a lot more in price. My local dealer is charging more for 18" and higher than the smaller tires for balance, rotation or alignment.

Yes that's true. The plugs are easy and they work. Sometimes you get lucky and can plug the tire without taking it off the truck. I've also fixed all my flats for the last 10 years and I'm pretty lazy so it doesn't take much effort.

Spend a few extra bucks and buy the 'T' handles instead of the straight ones, it will save you a few blisters.

Most garages around here won't do a patch, they claim safety reasons. All use plugs, so save your time and effort. It's easier to do this one yourself.
