Where to go?

Newbie here with a question. I have lived in the Tampa Bay area all my life but, I cannot think of any place close by to go off-road. I sure would like to know if my 4 wheel drive works. Does anyone have an idea of where to go? The only place I can think of is Croom but, I have not been there in years. Don't even know if it is still there. Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Where to go?

The only places I know about are all close to me over on the east coast: 5a which is right off of I95 in Scottsmoor, Canaveral Groves, Holopaw (you have to know someone that has a key to the gate though), and there are a few smaller places with trails and stuff around here. Let me know if you ever come over to Canaveral Groves it's like 10 minutes from my house so I'll take my Ford out there and show you around.

Re: Where to go?

Stay away from Ocala unless you want free custom pin stripes. Plus the Divison of Forestry people on the their ATV's hand out tickets left and right and most don't know the rules themselves.

Croom is ok. You also have Richloam WMA and Green Swap WMA (both off of 471) they both offer some wet and dry fun but mostly wet. Citrus WMA over in Inverness is a nice place to trail ride. Good roads and some decent terrain to play on in some areas.

As always on these State and Federal owned lands, Tread lightly.

Thats what ya call the Florida pin stripe!!

In the last 2-3 years since the ATV's have taken over Ocala all the tight trails that use to get beat back during the hunting season by big trucks don't get beat back anymore. Ocala is great for a beater truck or Jeep but if you want to keep your paint you better stay away.

And yeah I have several too.

Re: Where to go?

i wouldnt mind getting together with a few people and heading out to do some trail tearing, i would prefer not to have pinstripes though, but i am due for some off roading. i live in dover, about 14 miles out I-4. anyways hope some of us guys in the area can get together and go somewhere.

Re: Where to go?

Yes the WMA side you can trail ride in some places. Use to be a hot spot for mud runs years ago.
The Croom/Brooksville side is OHV use only.

Re: Where to go?

There are some trails in Withlacoochee Forest. I haven't been in a while. Seems like we used to drive up Fletcher and out under 75. That led to a nice 2 lane country road and even some dirt roads. It's somewhere out that direction. Let me think about exactly where a little.

Edit: Here you go, I think Richloam and Citrus areas allow off roading. Crooms allows motorcycles, but I'm not sure about trucks. http://www.fl-dof.com/state_forests/Withlacoochee.html

Get in touch with http://florida4x4tr.proboards37.com/index.cgi?
or http://www.suncoastflatlanders.com/m...hp?name=Forums
I've gone on a trail ride with them somewhere north of Tampa, it's mostly jeeps but they welcome anyone. Here's a pic of that ride:
