cruise control swith

Has anyone changed there own cruise control switch. It doesn't look all that hard but I don't want to deploy the airbag. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I order the switch today.

thanks

Red face Re: cruise control swith

Thanks, I looked over that link and it is something that I believe I can do. I had it at the dealers and they wanted to charge me 421.00 to change the switch. But I got them to trouble shoot it for me to determine why the cruise didn't work. I bought the switch and autozone here will rent you a steering wheel puller. The rest is down hill. Thanks again for the link.

Hmmmm. Out of warranty I presume? That sux. It's always like that. Hope it works out for you! Seems like a pretty comprehensive procedure. Good luck!

Re: cruise control swith

yea you know it is. The bad think is I wasn't aware that it was out of warrenty. But such is life. I was an aircraft mechanic so I think I can handle the steering wheel. I was worried about the airbag deploying. But with that problem solved I am home free.

Re: cruise control swith

I have similar concerns, but mine involve the side curtain airbags. I want to run some wires up through the A-pillars to feed some switches I want to mount on the upper console, but am leary of removing the pillar covers because of the airbags in there. I've settled for mounting the auxilliary light switch between the seat heat switches on the lower console, but would have rathered they be up next to the temp gauge and sunroof controls.

For air bag work, the standard is to remove batt power for at least 10 minutes.
All air bag connectors should be yellow. I pull off steering wheel air bags all the time...
