That's kinda where I am, too. Ride's nice, but just like I don't expect a truck that I use to pull a travel trailer to get great mileage, neither do I expect it to ride like a luxury car.
The problem is consumers. You and I expect a Truck to be a Truck. Tow stuff, haul stuff etc.. But the truck market is so interconnected with the large SUV market that a lot of "Soccer Moms" still buy and they want a luxury car ride and good gas mileage because their trucks are just for show.
I say balogna!!!! If Nissan (or Ford, Chevy, Dodge) would take the 1/2 ton and drop a small diesel in it that could tow 9,000 lbs AND get 24 miles to the gallon when it ain't pullin something, they would not be able to build them fast enough!!! I am hearing rumors that Nissan might be the first to try it, in the Titan for 2011, but we'll have to wait and see.
I don't think he's saying we wouldn't want good mileage if we could have it. Just saying that we bought a truck that's capable first, mileage and ride second and they're a derivative of the first.
Sure, we'd love one that could do the 1/4 in 12 flat, top out at 160 mph, pull 1.5 g's on the skid pad, tow 15,000 lbs and get 35 mpg while doing all that. No such animal and never will be.
It's a truck and has to pull it's load. The rest just is what it is for us.

In regards to price, you are right that Dodge execs are smoking crack if they think a loaded new RAM is worth $52K! However i think they are only pricing them that high so there is room for "huge discounts", "massive rebates" and "employee pricing promotions". I was able to get one of my local dealers down to $38K (on a $52K truck) with barely any effort.
It sounds like Nissan is still up in the air about the next Titan, they are currently looking for other options besides Dodge. I think Nissan should give the Titan a good refresh to allow them some time to do a more detailed makeover of the truck, although I don't think the Titan needs much to make it a real player again. Add about 50 more HP, a bigger rearend, a coulple MPG's, and an upgraded interior and it would be perfect. I looked at the Dodge but it lacks in front seat room compared to the Titan, and no flat load floor in the back is a real minus for me.

The positive in most of the stuff we see, like that article, is that nothing is saying the Titan is dead. Everything I've read at least has Nissan still looking at options to continue the Titan in some way, shape or fashion.

I could go for a refreshed Titan, I just need to know soon. This one is starting to have dumb stuff begin to go wrong on it and I hate when that starts happening. I'm going to need to do something in the next year or so...
One thing I hope they do keep no matter what they do is the box configuration. Nissan's bed/box design is 5 years old and it's still far-and-away the best out there period. The tailgate is still the easiest to operate, the standard spray-in liner is the tops, and the rail system is the smartest thing I've ever seen in a pickup bed. The other MFR's should just copy it outright.

Nissan lost $2.4 billion in fiscal year 2008. I don't expect Nissan to spend much
money on a new pickup truck when the current models sales are very low.....IMO
Looks to me like it's the exact same truck, they just "decided" it should be rated higher.
Yep.
That being the case, they should issue a letter stating that the new tow ratings also retroactively apply to the 2009's. Otherwise 09 owners are going to suffer big losses as compared to the '10s, people will hold out for the '10s on the used market later on.

the high MPG diesel could be the Titan's salvation. a BIG diesel is not the thing to do then you have to compete with the big . Gice us performance cloe to the current v8 (less hp ok if twist is higher) and 25 MPG and watch the line form.
VW nailed this with the new diesel v6 toureag. It runs about with their v8 and cost BETWEEN the v6 and v8 price. They hit the sweet spot. Almost Can't get one up here virtually sold out.
price has to be right can't cost 6-8k more like a Ford or chevy got to be within a couple k.
