Hyundai - KIA recently scrapped its truck plans. Chevy is closing truck & SUV plants and is talking about scrapping the Hummer & building electric cars in the face of the recent nose dive in truck sales.
How attractive can a Mexican built Dodge Titan with an inferior engine & tranny be to Nissan's bean counters in the face of the recent 50% drop in Titan sales? Exactly what is the target market? The Dodge Hemi crowd won't touch it. Present Nissan Titan owners likely won't either. What is the sales pitch?
I dont know what the future is for the titan. i went to the dealer a couple days ago and offered them 28000 for an pro-4x. they said they couldnt do it so i said if you change your mind to give me a call. i havent heard from them. i figure if you can afford gas now is the time to get a great deal on some big vehicles. still waiting to see what they do i want the LWB crew cab version to replace my 06 king cab so i guess i will keep waiting and once they do either drop the line or do the gay dodge merger i will have my decision made. and buy whats out now or a new bad a** titan that they might make. nissan is so hush hush about what they do this could all be a ploy to shock the market with a billy truck. i dont see that hapening though. so for now i will keep waiting and drive my motorcycle on the week days and my titan on the weekends until the government steps in and forces the oil companies to lower prices.
My latest edition of Truck Trend came last night. The Titan will be built in Mexico at the Dodge plant and it sounds like it will have the new Ram chassis and some other components. The article just was not that specific though so who knows. I think the 5.6 is better than the HEMI overall but who knows what this "Titan" will be composed of or look like.
This is sad but Nissan brought all of this on themselves by building a low quality truck. Whoever decided to put that weak *** rear diff behind this powerful motor is just an idiot plain and simple. How in the world could something like that get by quality control? How in the world could this person be called an engineer?
The Titan is my first "foreign" vehicle ever(always owned GMC) and it is by far the worst quality vehicle I have ever had. That being said I still love my 2005. It is built like a truck should be with big tires, serious approach and departure angles, and big low end torque. The problem is you can't enjoy it. I lost my rear diff at 27,000 miles. I tried to get Nissan to buy my truck back and Consumer affairs were absolutely incompetent. I guess they think bringing a truck in every month for a year, sometimes multiple times for the same problem is normal. The dealership is horrible. They think that everyone who buys one of their trucks is a poser and knows nothing about the mechanics of trucks.
I have a sick feeling in my stomach as I am about to pass 60k and I know this rear diff is going to explode again. I don't even tow anything! I would entertain another Titan but it still has the same rear diff and there is just no reason to buy another one since they are unwilling to own up to and fix their mistakes.
My god I just read about the 2011 Ram/Nissans being a cooperative between Nissan and Dodge at autoweek....
WHY are they doing this....well $$$$ is the number one reason. But I dont know If I will EVER buy another Nissan after this.
I had a Dodge RAm 2002 1500 Q cab.....and Liked the truck but Had way too many issues in less than the 2 years I owned the truck....I hope this is well designed and well thought out......I wanted a Titan since they came out and got one finally this year (used 2004) ...Man I dont know what to think of this....I hope the gas mileage is way better than my old Dodge if they use Chrysler engines.....
Hey, don't worry... The co-op between Chrysler and Mercedes worked out well. Mercedes finally started turning out garbage thanks to them but atleast the Chrysler/Dodge line looks nicer now.
I could stomach the change if they at least kept the Nissan engine and tranny. The Dodge chassis, in all fairness, is probably as good or better than ours in terms of quality.
If we inundate the Nissan - TN headquarters with this request, do you think we would have a chance? They will still be making the 5.6/tranny for the Armada and Infinity at this point.
dodge is claiming 23mpg in the highway on their new 2009 hemi. but ill probably go either tundra or gmc ( dont like chevy front end as much). Or get a lil truck and a charger srt8.
Nope, it's all about the bottom line. Trucks aren't selling; 4-cylinder fuel efficient vehicles are. Out of the same plant that makes the Titan, Armada, QX56, and Quest that just aren't selling, we can't make enough Altima's. With the future full-size pickup and SUV sales projections, it's just not cost effective to built Titan in Canton for the time being. I hate it because it is my favorite product out of the plant, but at least we have the ability to increase capacity on my 2nd favorite product and cut truck production from the plant without laying off Nissan employees. Not too many manufacturers can lay claim to that.
Makes business sense. Would you rather have no Titan?
Last I heard, its going to have the new HEMI (somewhere around 400 h.p.).
Ummm...No, sorry. If I wanted a Dodge, I'd buy a Dodge. I don't want a Nissan built by Dodge, either. Nissan has made a poor decision at this point. They've lost me as a customer.

I would say they are focused on the GTR, which is their 2009 flagship vehicle.
The GT-R, while a bad *** car, is NOT Nissan's flagship. It is produced in too few numbers to be a flagship. The new '09 Maxima is the flagship of the Nissan lineup. The Max has been and probably always will be the flagship of the line. Man, I can't wait until our GT-R's get here!
