Re: Cat fishing tips please

Dropping barometric pressure triggers fish to bite. You'll probably do better the day a storm is brewing.

As far as gear: 10-12lb mono, 2/0 hooks, lead sinkers, and chicken livers or cut-up gizzards.

Catfishing is a pretty simple way to fish. You can tight-line or use a bobber, if you wish. Murky or "dirty" water is a plus, as they do not stay in clearer water (usually), however, stagnant water isn't what you want, either. You want to find flowing water. (if fishing a lake or pond, this is of course moot). Just cast and wait. Have fun.

Oh, and "noodling" like the video shows is pretty dumb. One can reach into a hole and find a snapping turtle instead. Have fun getting your fingers back from one of them.

Re: Cat fishing tips please

i thought cat fishing required 3 things.. 1 the stinkiest bait you can find, 2 lots of patients, and 3 good friends and drinks.. (ok 4..)

cat fishing is about the most layed back fishing there is. everyone has there way, and its all about what works for you in the location your at. there is a reason there are no "cat fishing tournaments". its more about relaxing and spending time with your buddies, or by yourself, whichever.. toss it out, prop up your pole, sit back and relax. when the pole starts moving pull and reel!!

Exactly. It's a toss-and-wait game.

Re: Cat fishing tips please

For cats, I would recommend a 6-10 lb test for the lighter cats. If you are talking about 15+ lb cats, move to 12lb test. Catfish feed in the early morning or late and they do so by smell, not by site. As such, there should not be any need for the flourocarbon or flourocarbon coated lines. Again, they feed through smell, not sight. I would save the money and just use the mono-filament stuff...

For the bait... use the stinkiest bait you can find. Mackeral works well, and I'm sure the 2 day old rotten mackerel would work. However, it sounds gross and I probably would not want to tough it. I would try using mackerel, and smother it in HOG WILD... I've had good luck with that. Or, you can use chicken liver... that works well. Just use something stinky...

Good luck to ya... my fellow angler.

One more thing... the murkier the water... the shorter your lead.
