help me choose a rifle

i want a new rifle as my teenage son (soon to get the safety permit) will soon use my lee enfield .308 bolt action for feral hog hunting.

as you'll know, a 4x4 pickup is a perfect hunting "wagon" and Titan's the best at that.

now i'd like a brand new rifle to be hauled in my brand new truck for our hunting trips and to accompany us on our off-road wanderings..

i've narrowed to three:
Remington 7400 wood stock .308 22" bbl $624
Springfield M1A Scout Squad, Walnut stock .308 18" bbl $1727
Springfield M1A SOCOM 16 "ugly plastic" stock .308 16" bbl $1900?

got any ideals or advice?
I'm now looking towards a handy short barrel, wooden stock, .308 semi-action (since we already have a couple of 24" bbl bolt actions)

I'm leaning towards the Remington 7400...

Me and My Dad use SIGARMS .306 and .300 we have used them both for wild hog, deer, and ram.

No complaints here.

Hope you get what your looking for.

At least get a .338 caliber to match the engine displacement.

Are autoloaders still legal in CA? Let alone Berkley?

I like my Sig970 but it has a wierd magazine that doesn't feed reliably, in my opinion. I don't short stroke it, but sometimes the ears in the front need tweeked to feed correctly. I don't think I'd buy another, but it is accurate enough.

I have a Rem 7400 in a .30-06 carbine for "up north" deep woods deer hunting. Nice rifle.
Use a Browning A-bolt in .25-06 in more wide open spaces.

I prefer my Chinese SKS with 30 round banana clip, but the 700
Remingtons are arguably the most respected of all rifles.

Since you are in California, I think that the Democractic Party would
prefer that you get a single shot rifle and carry a Glazier safety slug
in your shirt pocket.

Close, but they want no rifle and no slug. And Lord don't be shooting Bambi or Porky Pig!

You won't need a rifle if you're taking the Titan, will ya?

How about a crossbow?

Or just a baseball bat?

I'm leaning towards the Remington 7400...

of those choices I'd get a M1A

I guess you can't buy a FAL www.dsarms.com

or AR10 www.armalite.com since your in Kali ??

DPMS & www.Bushmaster.com are making .308 AR's now too

only DPMS site I could find
http://www.dpmsinc.com/10browse.asp?...ms:A-15+Rifles

I would also choose a Browning BAR over the Remington 7400
http://www.browning.com/products/cat...asp?value=002B

If your looking for something as short as the M1A scout maybe one of these too www.remingtonle.com/rifle/7600.htm

you might surf www.ar15.com www.falfiles.com www.thehighroad.org

for a short/light & handy bolt gun consider a Remington model 7
http://www.remington.com/firearms/ce...centerfire.htm

or a Ruger 77 MkII compact (16" barrel)
http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProd...famid&famid=27

OR back on the Remington LE site check out out the 20" 700 LTR

OR maybe a 20" Savage 10FP
www.savagearms.com/centerfire_home.htm

l always want maximum firepower so my choice is the Barrett 50.
You can run away. You'll just die tired!
Take a look. http://www.barrettrifles.com/

Only kidding. I prefer the enfield 303. Simple and very reliable.
Second would be the A1.

6.8mm Remington SPC

hmmm, i'll wait for a Remington semi-auto rifle, with wooden stock as I do not like the look of dark plastic stocks, chambered for the new 6.8x43mm a.k.a. "6.8mm Remington SPC (Special Purpose Cartridge)"

p.s. our .308 lee-enfield has been very reliable, easy to shoot straight. my wife uses a k98 8mm Mauser.

Re: help me choose a rifle

I'd look around for a new Winchester Model 70, as there will be no more American made ones...the production is moving to Japan next year.

Otherwise, I'd stick with the Remington.

Autoloaders are legal in CA, assault rifles are not.

After WWII, many Enfields were factory converted to 308 Winchester (7.62 NATO). I have one of the few that was converted to 30-06. Barrel has English proofs.

Re: help me choose a rifle

For $1700 I would get the Springfield M1A National Match instead of the Scout.
