Does Anybody Like To Fish To Salmon/steelhead?

Fishing for samon/steelhead is my main "job" now. I spend aabout 1month each summer floating down an Alaskan river. We ship our rafts and equipment form Calif.
I also fish most N. Calif coastal rivers in the winter. I am always looking for someone to take fishing, either in Alaska
or my home river. So, if there is anyone in Northern Calif.
that would like to go fishing let me know.

Bestachess: I have been on the Alagnak river in Katmai Nat. Park twice, Lake Creek, about 70 miles north of Anchorage twice, The kanetok river via Bethel twice also near Bethel the kisaralik once.I have also floated American Creek near Katmai. In addition I have floated the Stuyahok, Koktuli, and the mulchatna, and Nushagak rivers. In July I will be floating the Alagnak river again for 21 days.Last year I landed 900 salmon(all five species) not including trout, grayling and char(dollies).I kid you not, 125 chum a day is not uncommon if you hit the peak of the run. You are only limited by your physical ability.

P.S.: We don't use guides and we outfit ourselves. All we do is hire a float plane. I float in a 16 foot cat, with a solid floor that is a little under 4 feet wide and 12 feet long. My raft will easily hold a ton. Although, in tough rivers like lake creek we keep the load down as it is class 3-4>

Re: Does Anybody Like To Fish To Salmon/steelhead?

sure envy you skyhammer, i fish salmon river in pulaski, ny. about 12 days a year, but i never caught 900 salmon.
most of my time is spent fishing the long island sound where i fish for stripers, blackfish[tutog] & bluefish.
i use my titan to tow my 7000lb. center console 82miles to the ramp.

I'd go if I lived up there. I'm a city slicker and mostly pier fish. one day i'll catch a salmon! One day.

Re: Does Anybody Like To Fish To Salmon/steelhead?

Very nice pics man! I fish for Kings, Steelhead, Lake Trout, Coho etc in the great lakes every year. But I can tell that Alaska is just over the top.

It's obvious your passionate about it. Have you ever considered moving there?

Re: Does Anybody Like To Fish To Salmon/steelhead?

While I haven't rally considered moving to Alaska, I have considered and looked into buying a lodge in the Katmai or Lake Clark area. There are some very nice properties for sale at times. Price is reasonable, usually $600,000-$1.5 million.
I would like a partner that would share expenses or would like to run the lodge part. I have no interest in running a lodge, I just want to fish.
If anybody wants to fish for Steelhead or Salmon in NW California, let me know and we can set something up.
Also, if anyone wants to float Alaskan rivers for 2-3 weeks let me know and I will discuss the details and planning involved.
It is not cheap, but not that expensive when you think about it. I guarantee that you will be talking about the trip for years to come.

Re: Does Anybody Like To Fish To Salmon/steelhead?

I have been fishing for the last 5 days. I have landed 16 Kings and 27 Steelhead. Here are a few pictures taken on my home river, between 5-20 miles from my house.

This is a small King in perfect shape.

This is a 11lb. Steelhead. I was fishing by myself. While I was fighting the fish a friend of mine came by, anchored his boat, jumped into my boat and netted the fish for me. It is very hard to net these fish by your self in fast water, a foot release anchor system comes in handy.

This a 14lb. Steelhead I landed by myself. I had the camera in one hand and the fish in the other.
This is a 13 lb. Steelhead, same scenario.

A friend of mine fighting a Steelhead, while my Terrier Susie watches the action from my boat.

A few pictures of my river.
