Firearm Enthusiast

Another one of my favorite past times is firearms. I have literally been around firearms my entire life both from my father a former detective and then growing up in helping my grandfather gunsmith shop.

Through the years my favorite of all calibers is the .45 ACP even though I have a variety of firearms.I am partial to the 1911 type single action auto with a light trigger around 3 lbs of pull.

Among my favorites in my collection are:
1911 Army Issue Remington Rand - pure collector in mint condition
1911 45 ACP that I completely reworked for efficient shooting
Glock 21 45 ACP - Not as accurate as my 1911's, but more reliable not to jam.

My wish list would be:
Springfield Tactical Response Pistol (TRP)
Wilson Combat Tactical Elite

I would love to have a nice shotgun and love the thought of bird hunting, but living in Atlanta I don't see it happening anytime soon and I can't afford to belong to the skeet clubs. I envy you guys that are getting to bird hunt.

Good topic guys. I used to have areas around where shooting was ok. (pistols) These places have all disapeared. Now my collection has been tucked away for a few years.

H & K .45 USP
Stainless Browning .40
Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 (single action) Very light trigger, dont want to drop this one.

Various shotguns and rifles

You can find decent dove hunting on the outskirts of Atlanta. Look in the paper and you can probably find a pay hunt. Dont pay more than about $50

I too am in the Atlanta area. For just skeet and trap, its tough to beat wolf creek which I think is back open.
There are many places for lease, just look in the papers or look on line. I just did a real quick search and found this link. http://www.tracker-outdoors.com/georgia.htm There are a few dove leases availble.

I will say this dont hunt public land! I tried out Charlie Elliott last year on opening day. Every 50 ft was a hunter on each side of the fields. Saw 5 birds had one safe shot (I hit it) and spent most of the day getting sprinkled with lead. When a bird would fly over it sounded like we were in a war zone. People were shooting at birds that were over 100 yards away. I stayed the afternoon becouse I didnt want to give anyone a moving target... But will never go back.

This happened about a year ago at our local indoor range.
The guy in the picture is a coworker that was waiting in an adjacent booth because we were sharing a lane. The .45 slug hit the back wall at 75 feet came back and hit him in the neck. Because the slug was hot it stuck to his neck and left the burn as shown. The remains of the slug is what we pulled off his neck. The wound was not from impact, but rather from the burn.

The design of the back wall at this range is obviously built wrong because I have had several pieces hit me in the chest as I am shooting.

Sounds like the little millet fields we used to plant in Kentucky for dove shoots. A war zone with a bunch of half drunk rednecks sitting on their coolers. They would shoot at birds flying in low and getting sprayed was common.

I have several guns but my favorite is my Kimber CDP .45 with melted edges. I had to sell my AR-15 but I'll be in the market soon again.

I have a cheapo Ruger western style single action 22 revolver. I like it though; it has interchangeable cylinders and can shoot 22 magnum rounds. It is accurate and I can shoot all day for cheap.

I'm only 34, but I don't own a gun under 50 years old. They all still shoot perfect and are in great shape.
1947 - Winchester 30-30 rifle
1944 - Army issue 1911 Colt 45 - with holster
1941 - Crossman Arms pump air pistol - with original target plate with bell
1938 - Stevens 520 pump shotgun
1936 - Savage .22 short-action pump rifle
