sometimes people ask for it, why get on a thread called deer hunting tr...... and say deer hunting is dumb?
i like all sorts of hunting, what i like the most about hunting is spending quality time with my dad and my grandpaw in an old cabin, fixin food over a camp fire, talking about the old days, it doesnt get any better than that.

Zackly!!! We are all products of our environments...and some people were not born to be hunters. Thank God, or they would ruin it for the rest of us.
" I don't hunt to kill, I hunt to keep from having to play golf"..
So leave me alone while I am hunting, and I won't shoot at your balls mid-fairway....k?
PS Let's go back to posting Trophy pics here if anybody has one.

Really nice Buck Tnbowhunter. Season here in South Arkansas has been going for about a weeks and so far my freezer is empty. Seen several but nothing to really pull the trigger on. I have to return to work this week or at least till Thankgiving so maybe better luck soon.
I will not get into the hunt or not hunt argument as anyone who has never hunted cannot appreciate it so to each his own.
Also As you can see I am new to this forum but have been a long time member of another great hunting and outdoor forum. Jesses Hunting A real nice group of guys and gals. Not many of them drive Titans but they do all enjoy the outdoors and hunting. Come visit us sometime.
WISCONSIN
Five people shot dead in hunting dispute
BIRCHWOOD, - A dispute among deer hunters over a tree stand in northwestern Wisconsin erupted Sunday in a series of shootings that left five people dead and three others injured, officials said.
Jake Hodgkinson, a deputy at the county jail, identified the suspect as Chai Vang but would give no additional details. Several news organizations in Minneapolis-St. Paul reported the suspect was 36-years-old and from St. Paul.
The incident happened when two hunters were returning to their rural cabin on private land in Sawyer County and saw the suspect in one of their tree stands, County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle said. A confrontation and shooting followed.
It's not known who shot first, Zeigle said.
Both men were wounded and one of them radioed back to the cabin. Other hunters responded and were shot, he said. The dead included a teenage boy and a woman, Zeigle said.
The suspect was ''sniping'' at the victims with a SKS assault-style rifle, Zeigle said.
There has to be more to it than just "fighting" over a deer stand.
I passed a fairly serious accident this morning involving a deer. If hunting was illegal in Alabama I would probably buy my wife a dump truck or maybe that big international. We are already over populated here. I love to bow hunt but for the purpose of controlling the population there is no substitute for a rifle. So what it dumb, killing deer with a rifle or going to bow only and end up killing them with your car if they do not die of desease or starvation first.
This is sad, also extremely strange at the same time. Obviously by the man's name he's not of american descent. Then taking over a tree stand on private property armed with an SKS assault rifle, which correct me if i'm wrong but that not the weapon of choice for most deer hunters. Then of course the horror that followed. I'm guessing this guy wasn't out there deer hunting.

I highly doubt that the man's racial ancestry has anything to do with it,
if you are looking at it from some sort of terrorist angle.
As for the SKS, many surplus or abundantly available military rifles are used
for hunting. A Packard Bell wouldn't be your first choice for a computer, but
you go with what you can afford. I heard on the news that the shooter ran
out of ammo, so I guess he didn't have a banana clip or enough ammo if he
had planned this mass murder beforehand.
All anyone can do is speculate right now. I wouldn't have confronted the
man about whether he had paid or not to be there. I think I would have
called the proper authorities, or waited until he wasn't holding a weapon.
Very tragic. This sort of thing isn't typical of hunting, or shooting either.

I agree, somthings just not right, I don't think he was deer hunting. I just hope the real story comes out.
Although the SKS 7.62X39 is legal to hunt with [in Tn. anyway] it is not the best deer rifle out there for sure. It certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

I guess it would give someone an inferiority complex to show up at a deer
lodge with a $100 gun. That's about like when I started shooting trap with
a Mossberg pump. Didn't take me too long to realize the $1500 Browning
would be a better choice.
I still think if the guy had this planned, he would have brought more than
8 or ten rounds with him. How many do you guys that hunt usually take
with you?
They are going to give a press conference around 2 PM on Fox about it.
Maybe more info will come out then.
BTW, Daryl, great picture of your trophy, oops....I mean Dawn's trophy.
My wife wants us to wait until the season's over to take out the Rhino.
I guess whether or not the guy hade a hunting liscense would answer more questions. We had a hunting incident on the front of the paper here where a guy stopped his truck and shot across the roadway at a deer. An approaching motorist witnessed it and called the cops. Didn't really seem like front page material to me, and of course they are throwing the book at the guy, at least he got the deer.

If I'm hunting close to home I usually just carry 10 rounds, hopfully I won't ever need that many shots to kill one deer. But I do like to carry the extras for signaling in case of an emergency.
It is an odd case, stranger things have happened, I remember several years ago some maniac was going around shooting deer hunters, I don't remember which state it was now.
A lot of hunters and hunting clubs are very protective of their hunting property, I know it really pi$$es me off when I catch someone trespassing on my property, not to the point of shooting them though. And sometimes they do get pretty upset when they are told to leave. I've tried to get the law involved but by the time the Deputies or Game officials get there the trespassers have left.
BTW Dawn put it on me again this weekend, she got an 8 point and I got a 6 pointer. It's gonna be a long cold winter.

You're talking about the hunting, right?
Be sure to post picks, Daryl. All this talk about deer hunting is making me
think about getting back into it, but then I remember the three days I
spent in the George Washington forest with wet boots and a case of
heartburn that a whole pack of Rolaids couldn't cure.
Supra, it's not legal to shoot across a road or from the road in many places.
Some wildlife agencies even put up fake deer near roadways to see if they
can get any takers. I saw where one guy unloaded on a decoy with a full
auto.
They keep talking on the news about this guy using an "assault rifle".
He's toast now, regardless of the circumstances that precipitated the event.
I believe I'll reconsider any plans for my SKS to be a cheap deer rifle. I
better look for something more politically correct. Maybe Daryl will let me
shoot maters with it at his place.
I normally carry 5 rounds. That is what the clip in my styer holds and with always hunting close to a buddy with specific times we go in and leave I feel that 5 is 4 more than I should need. I have killed 100+ deer in my life and have never fired more than 1 round on any of them. I would need to clarify that 95% of those deer were does and I never take a risky shot. Before I get blasted for the does I need to point out that I lived on 1,000 acres for about 5 years and the state would issue us 150 doe tags. With only 5 people hunting it does not take long to stack up the numbers.
Now when ducking hunting that is a different story. I can barely carry my blind bag lol.
