The tap ammo is great for the brass but that is about it if you just buy the regular hornady custome ammo that is the same as the TAP except for the black nickel case!

No I dont reload that is just regular 60gr TAP w/ polymer tip. It is good defense ammo. I would use the 75gr stuff but until I test fire some of it I wouldn't trust it for home defense being that my bbl is a 1/9" twist and shooting heavy stuff in a 1/9" can be hit and miss although most Bushy bbls do well with it. I will probably bring a couple of boxes on my next range trip and see how it performs. If it doesn't keyhole I will start using it. I used to use XM193 but the TAP stuff is better. Hopefully I never have to try either of them out.

Green T do u reload? R those nosler ballistic tips?
I can almost guarantee those are Hornady SST's, They are similar to the Nosler Balistic Tips.
I reload everything I shoot except 22 rimfire. This includes, 223, 260, 30-30, 30-06, 270. and 7mm Mag. Plus all my shotgun loads.
I have always had great luck and success with Hornady bullets from an accuracy and terminal performance standpoint. I used to use Hornady Interlocks exclusively but ever since the new SST's came out I am switching everthing over to them. I even use the SST's in my Remington 700 Muzzleloader and the Thompson Center Thunder Hawk. They are the most accurate bullet that either shoot, again the terminal performance is phenominal.

Tn yeah i heard about those SST's my buddy wants to go with a new load for his 30.06 next year and scale down to 150 grain and i did some research and seen that the SST's are pretty violent when it comes to expansion and terminal performance. I on the other hand use a handgun if i need to hunt during the rifle season here in Pennsylvania. I use cast 300 or 335 grain for my 454 casull (that knocks the sh*t out of any deer or 4 legged animal in PA). I also like to use the 300 grain XTP mag from hornady that is a sweet bullet and does a wonder on whitetail. I shot one this winter with my casull at 103 yds and knocked her stiff. She fell in her tracks! I have also checked into using some frangible ammo that won't shot through and through any walls but will drop assilants in their tracks!
Anyone hunting with Barnes X's? I'm a big Nosler BT fan and have been loading them in a variety of different calibers for quite a few years. I started reading about Barnes, especially the new Triple Shocks and the XLC's and decided to give them a try.
I've only loaded 130 XLC's (blue powerer coated) for my son-in-law's 270 and some 140's for my 280. They are not quite as accurate in the loads I've worked up so far (still tweaking them) but I am getting them down to 1 inch at 100 yards now.
The son-in-law took a nice 8 point whitetail two weeks ago with a single shot using the 130's. They don't have the massive internal disruption that the BT's have, but I'm beginning to think the Barnes have an advantage if the shot is not perfect. He took a broadside chest shot at about 150 yards and got a little too far forward and went in through the right shoulder, breaking it. The bullet still passed all the way through exiting the left rib cage, breaking a rib on the way out. Good size exit hole.
I know it's a hot debate as to whether rapid expansion with total absorption of energy is better than the ability to break bones, penetrate completely and leave a good exit wound that will bleed well if the game should run on you.
I'm still unsure but just wondered if any of you have an opinon on the subject.
BTW, today I'm reloading some really mean looking, long heavy, high BC 200 grain Triple Shocks in my Weatherby 300. The TS's can usually take a couple grains heavier load than the regular X's, so I have loaded trial sets of three each going progressively up to 76 grains of RL19. If there are no pressure signs that should chronograph at 3000-3100 fps. Will kick like a mule, but will be good elk and moose medicine for next year, if the load works out.

I have been a Nosler Partition fan since years ago when my father shot a bull elk in the foot at about 550 yards (he underestimated the distance resulting in substantial bullet drop) with a 30-338 at first light in the morning. We spent the rest of the day tracking it at elevations between 8,000 and 12,000 feet. Just as the sun was starting to go down, we saw the elk in a stand of pine trees about 150 yards away. Since the sun was going down, my father took a desperation shot, shooting through a pine tree, and killing the elk. A few years later, I shot a running bull elk in the shoulder at about 100 yards with a 180 grain Nosler Partition in a 30-06. The bullet broke the shoulder (everybody needs some sausage, right?), penetrated through the elk, and I found the bullet just under the hide on the other side, nicely mushroomed but still intact.
FS-300 Weatherby-South Gate-pre German manu-pre 9 lug bolt
Speaking of Weatherby 300 mags;does anyone have any interest in a South Gate CA manufactured 300 Weatherby. It is a good shooter with pretty nice wood.I not sure when it was built-late 50's early 60's I guess-before they went to the fancy 9 lug Mark 5 and before they built them in Germany.Weatherby originally used military type actions for his rifles. The wood is pretty nice-some blueing lost-bore still ok.I bought it used in 1978.Still has the ancient 4x Weaver scope.
Anyone have any idea if anyone collects these things? Not looking for a lot of $$-maybe $600???Thanks.Charlie
PS Hard to believe that CA was once a gun manufacturing state.

well, lets see, i fired just about everything from a paintball gun all the way up to a ak-47 and everything in between. and from my experience- i would rather have a revolver over a regular modern federal 9mm semi auto. and the ak-47 IS better than the m-16 in- quality(m-16 is just a p.o.s plastic piece of **** firing out pieces of metal out of its tip) its also better in power, range, exc. and i dont give a **** if i sound anti-american saying that, b/c u know what-im pureeee american, thats why im telling the truth about or millitary wepondary. lets also see, for any deep woods/jungle fighting i prefer a rifle over a mechine/sub gun. for snipering- i will take a regular ol' rifle with scope over those p.o.s. mechine/rifle horrible looking thingy's they have out today.
First off nothing on the AR with the exception if the furniture is plastic. The AR has proven itself to be as reliable if not more so than the crudely made POS that is the AK. I know of guys with tens of thousands of rounds through AR's that have never been cleaned. It that smart? No but its true. Yes the AK is more powerful but it has FAR less effective range than an AR and can't even touch the AR in terms of accuracy. When is the last time you saw an AK shoot accurately out to 600yards with iron sights?
NEVER! if it were CQB i would prefer the AK but for anything out past 100 75 yds. i would rather have a AR. As for the AR being a plastice POS you must not shoot much to know alot about firearms since the AR-15 was once listed as a great military invention of the 21st century (stoner really invented the AR). As for stopping power you probably haven't seen what a .223 remington does to a deer at 300 yards?
I used to enjoy it at the range when people would have an SKS or an AK and start talking trash. Then I would drag out my M1A National Match and initiate a reality check procedure.
yep my father loves my M4 but he told me stories when i nam when he was issued hte m1 and loved it much more than the m-16. Those are sweet little guns those m1A's !

yup, 308s with Nosler Partitions, CoreLoke (sp?) Bronze Points, or Barnes bullets rock!....i've got in mind a LRB M14SA "M1a" (would be my 2nd .308, as i've got a bolt action for deer/pigs) for me as soon as i can scounge up pure cash for it...after my yearly 401K & IRA savings...which aint going to be easy since i've got a kid that started college. Besides, I just bought a cello and committed to a year, at least, of private lesson$.
funny, i've always like "destructive" hobbies: archery, firearms shooting, "karate", and biking, but now i'm a cello fiddler wanna be (I want to play Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" on my cello -- see the band Apocalyptica, for reference), but if things go well dis year (or next), I'll have my LRM M14SA, SEI modified...booohYaah!

Just my 2 cents
Love my M16 service rifle, love the AR, far better acuracy than the AK in any situation. However the M16 needs to be cleaned all the time, it will and does jam easily..have seen it happen in the worst of situations. Not fun to have a jammed weapon while you are being shot at.
The AK can rust and still put bullets down range, still woldn't give my M16 up for an AK but that is a personal choice. Wouldn't mind the govt getting us those XM8's but thy suspended the contract. The demonstrations I have seen with this weapon amaze me.
