A little taste of Florida wildlife!!

Let me set the scene up for ya. I was out picking weeds and I see this tail in my bushes where I was about to pick some weeds....well I knew what that was so I go get the shovel and poke at it. Sure enough its alive to. Yup a gator in my bushes. A little more and I could have lost a finger to that guy. He may be small but he is fast and can take a finger off. I guessed around 26 inches.

EEEEK! Nothing out here except the occassional rattle snake....bet that made for an interesting afternoon though. Did animal control have to come collect it or did it just scurry off?

Re: A little taste of Florida wildlife!!

Gotta check for them everyday down here. Have had to poke a few with a broom stick over the years to get them out from under the car.

So how do you get them away? I live in Louisiana and we have gators here too but they are mostly in the marsh and the swamp. Thats way down in south Louisiana though. There is a pond down at our hunting camp that does have a few gators in it though. I was fishing one day and we saw one and called wildlife and fisheries. They set traps with chicken and shark hooks and the next day caught 2 of them. One was 11 foot! They said they got in from the river flooding.

Re: A little taste of Florida wildlife!!

You dont!! They will move away and find some lake or stream. I just leave them alone. Its really not worth getting close to them. They can be too dangrous especialy when they reach 4 feet. They can take your arm off real quick if they get a bit on ya.

Re: A little taste of Florida wildlife!!

Thats crazy, I'm glad I don't get gators in my yard. Plenty of snakes though. You can just walk right up on snakes...gives me the chills.

Re: A little taste of Florida wildlife!!

Gators are not that bad. Its easy to stay away from them for the most part. I would be more scared of moose and bears in other states more than gators here!

Hey that would be illegal. Ha ha ha That is a sore subject for me. It is only legal to hunt alligators if you own hundreds of acres of marsh land. How about that for being fair.
