Yeah that's right, I hit one......with a Jolly Rancher LOL.
I got in my stand way before daylight, I sat, and sat, no deer moving. Finally around 10:00 I hear somthing coming from behind me. I thought great, i'll never get up in time to get a shot. Just as I finally get on my feet and get my bow up the deer is practically right under me. As I start to draw I notice it's not a very big deer but hey it's legal and I do need a couple more deer for the freezer, but then I notice the tell tale bumps on it's head, a darn button buck! He's still a legal deer, but I do have my standards, besides his daddy or big brother might be coming behind him. I turn to look behind my stand to see if anything else is coming, nothing! When I look in front of me, little button head is laying down not 10 yards from me. I figure he will smell me before long as the wind is really starting to swirl, but evidently my scent proof clothes are working just fine. By 11:00 I am ready to head to the camper for somthing to eat but little pecker head is still laying there chewing his cud. I really don't want to alarm him because I know if I do he will start blowing and alarm every deer in the woods, soooo I reach in my pocket and pull out a Jolly Rancher and gently toss it in his direction. It lands right in front of his nose and he slowly stood up and sniffs it, I toss another one at him and he sniffs it as well. Finally he starts walking my way and as he gets right under me I drop one and it lands right in the center of his back, heck he didn't even flinch, I guess they are used to things falling out of trees all of the time. He finally gets hungry again and wanders out of sight, and I slowly get on the ground and slip quietly out of the woods. By the way, i'm pretty sure it was a watermellon rancher that I finally "scored" with.
