Opening day Muzzleloader

The wife and I had a great hunt. She got a 4 point opening morning and I got a doe that same evening. The weather was perfect, clear and cool. The full moon had deer movement slow but we saw enough deer to keep us on our toes. We were going to hunt untill Monday but I figured two deer was enough to process at one time so we slept in Sunday morning and came to the house.

The area we were hunting has a liberal bag limit, we were allowed two bucks each plus three does each per day. Not that I would want to take that many deer but it would be legal to do so.

First segment of M/L season ends Friday and I plan on hunting here at the house and will be holding out for bucks the rest of the season.

I can't wait until the 25th of the month. That's when firearms season opens up here in Maryland. I need to get my bow back in shape so I can bow hunt next year. Man I can't wait to put some meat on the ground. Anyway I'm up for jerky.

Saw 6 does this morning, but no bucks. Can't shoot does until 11-23. And the bucks have to have 13 inch inside spread. Kind of sucks but it is better in the long run.

Sounds good. We love the stuff as well. I grind and squeeze it out of a caulk gun into a dehydrator. It's done in in 3-4 hours.
I bought my 6 year old a Remington Model Seven youth .260 yesterday and mounted a Burris short mag 4-14x scope. I'm going to line it in tomorrow. I'm hoping that it's accurate and won't be to much for him.

Glad your at least seeing deer.

I wish that we had some sort of antler restrictions here in Tennessee there is no incentive to let the young bucks walk.

Excellent choice. I have one myself except it's not the youth model. You can even buy a regular size stock for it when the young hunter grows. The 260 is a great deer caliber it is so much more versatile than the 243. I use it a lot myself when I can get it away from the wife or daughter. If you reload try some 129 gr. Hornady SST's they do a great job on deer size game, and are very accurate in my rifle.

BTW I use the same method as you with the jerky it is so much easier.
