Re: Wild Pets In Your Front Yard ... What Do You Have ??
We have a pretty good assortment. There's an old 6-point buck that I see occasionally, a young spike, number of does. Stupid things come and mow off the roses that my wife likes so well. They were even standing on the front step one morning. I saw the shadows moving outside, opened the door, and WTF!!!
We also have some wild turkeys out here; Pheasants, also. Rabbits, wood rats, shrews, and coyotes who keep those in check. I don't care for the coyotes because I've lost two dogs to them. They used to be stupid enough to be seen on my acreage. The scope and a light pull takes care of that. The Titan makes a great spot to steady your arm. Then the eagles and turkey vultures can swoop down and finish up that little problem.
Lately we've been seeing a couple of Great Horned Owls out here. Big amazing raptors, but their call makes your hair stand on end. They will sit in the trees at the edge of the ravine and shriek at each other. All night.
I keep my upper acreage wild with no fences; there are a couple big "houses" out this way, and those idiots have their places all fenced and mowed like some kind of estate. They went and cut down all the trees, without regard to the rest of the lands around them. They don't know what they're destroying. Used to be herds of deer and maybe a few elk up that way - big herds. The side of the hill would turn dark as if the shadow of a cloud was passing by. Not any more.
Maybe they cut down the trees because they couldn't afford those huge houses any other way - I don't know. I'm an average guy with an average house, with an average salary, and I'm glad I was able to afford an above average pickup truck.
