ThanksGiving Weekend Buck

Thursday night Brian (my son) had a few small does come out on him and he was wanting something bigger or with horns since the freezer is full with his 6pt and my two doe. Friday morning he decided to sleep in so I went to my gas line stand by myself. At 705 the prettiest wish bone spike came out and I watch him feed a long the food plot for about 10 minutes until he went away. At 8am I see a nice doe stepping out. I had all ready decided to let the first doe walk and take the second doe I seen if she was big. Well she wasn't there to feed and she was walking across the gas line at about 120-130 yards away and I see a buck coming out. I go to him and it's a tall basket 6pt. I almost shot him and decided not to, remember I all ready had 3 deer in the freezer. I watch him as he had his nose down pushing her along until they slip in to the pines on the other side of the gas line. I relax, then all of a sudden Bull Winkle runs out. I knew right away he was what I wanted and yelled at him to stop him and he wouldn't have any part of it, he was after that 6pt for chasing his doe around. He was at a very fast trot and just as he was about to step in to the pines I shot. He dropped in his tracks with a broke back. I waited about 10 minutes but I could stand it any longer and I had to see what he was. I was walking up and counted 4 pts on the up side and he turned out to be a nice darn near perfect 8pt, weighing 170 pounds live weight. The rack measured 16 1/2 inches outside.

My best buck ever after 18 years of hard hunting, piles of spikes, 4's,5's,6's and a few small 7's and will be hard to beat IMO. Gun was my Ruger 30.06 and my reloads with 150gr Hornady Spire Points.

shawn and tholmes,

Not a lot of deer were seen this weekend from my club or from any once I have spoke with that hunted this weekend. Weird but they just weren't moving good I guess.
