Well, I've been hunting off and on all season without a good shot at a decent buck, and the kid goes out on his first day, with MY gun, and takes a halfway decent snorter in two hours. I made him pull it up the valley by himself, but the first mammal blood to christen my Titan's bed wasn't even my own deer.
Now he thinks it's easy. "Wait till he gives it a go with the bow" is all I can tell myself.
He actually thinks he outran the buck through the woods to a clearing to take the shot...man I wish I was young and dumb again!
I absolutly hate deer hunting but dont tell my 10 year old.I have been trying to get him a shot at a decent buck but with no luck.Man I hope this is the year. The things you do for your kids.
My son just bought his first shotgun yesterday so he can go skeet shooting.
Last weekend, he went tromping all over the California desert and got a couple of jackrabbits!
I was cleaning up my little off road car to use it in a parade a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed this brownish red stuff all over the load bed. Yep, dried blood from all the varmints, etc that the boy shot and turned into supper around here.
Looks like you might have a dyed in the wool hunter on your hands. Difference is, my kid doesn't get to take my Titan out hunting. I make him use his truck, and I won't be surprised when he shows up with his first real trophy.

Oh no, I never said he got to drive my truck...I just happened to be the driver today to haul the load. Nobody sits behind my wheel but me.
Now, I have to ask...how do you prepare a Jack to make it edible? I tried once on a South Dakota Jack, and decided that I'd rather eat a snow goose simmered in it's own goose juice with a wood**** gravy than ever do that again. No offense, but it was the most awful thing with hair I've ever eaten
edit: guess the small northern woodland bird with the naughty part of the name was edited for content. Did not mean it as an off color remark...sorry moderators.
So what was the crowds reaction to your little off road car's performance in the Doo Dah Parade?
It was the University of Redlands centennial homecoming parade. We hauled the school mascots and they slobbered all over the car!
We also had a DS21 (a fricking nice one) in the parade, with the UOR president on board.

I don't eat those things. The kid and his hunting buddies do. I come home from work to find a backyard full of dirty, camo'd out teenagers grilling their "catch of the day". Soemtimes, they freeze the catch and eat it later.

I hope you have it mounted for him, it would make a heck of a Christmas present although it would be hard to get it back from the taxadermist so soon.

Haven't decided yet if we are going to mount this one. Not a lot of mass there, and he (the kid) has been a little irresponsible in the money management lately, so I'm not that keen on dumping $500.00 on a mount when he decides to buy a PS3 instead of pay for the insurance on his FREE truck. Probably just cap it and put it on a plaque.
Spent all of last night dressing out the hide with mounting in mind, though, so I might change my mind. I'll give him a list of chores this week and see how he does as a little test.
Now I've got to finish as much work as I can so I can go back out in the cold and take one myself. Chances are it will end up being just a little smaller than his, and if I get any crap from him about it, I'll mount my little one just out of spite and let the mice go to town on his.
That's a nice buck and sure nough a wall hanger for a first deer. $500 is steep, for anice mount here they gor for $250 and up. I pay $275 and the man does a great job.
