I had such good responses when I asked opinions on particular pistols, thought I'd run this one across and see if anyone has experience with what I'm looking at...
I will be purchasing an AR15 style rifle in a varmint type configuration sometime in the next two weeks. Right now I have it narrowed down to the Rock River Arms Predator Pursuit.
Anyone have any experience with RRA and/or that particular model?
rock river builds a good firearm. i have the 1911 clone in sub compact size. it is put together much better than the colt.(read as it doesnt rattle when you shake it) same will apply to the ar15. good choice.

I have an olympic arms ar-15 w/ flat-top upper and heavy barrel. I like it alot and is a good deal less expensive....savings can be passed on to getting better scope then if you like.

I was looking at RRA but went with LMT as they are a military contractor and have the 1:7 twist and MPI their bolts and barrels RRA has a 1:9 twist no MPI and a non milspec buffer tube and stock. But then I was looking for a duty gun not a varminter

I went to their site and checked them out...I don't find a good description of what they are actually doing to the bolt and carrier group...giving the action more "dwell time" seems to me that they must be changing the geometry of the bolt lock-up lugs (?)
Are the receivers forged or fully machined from billet?
Also, while I'm not against building one, how did you find the process? I guess I would need some headspace gauges (go-nogo dummies) and a barrel wrench...is that about it for special tools?
I definately want either a stainless barrel or chrome lined. Kind of liked the 1:9 twist on the RRA due to the fact that I will also be shooting a lot of the lighter bullets for targets, but will of course go to some of the heavier noses for live critters. Seems like a decent compromise, but I'm no .223 expert. Last time I shot this round I was wearing a uniform. Also, the RRA go with the Wylde chamber which alleviates some of the problems between .223 and the 5.56 rounds. This is of course something that may also be a compromise, and possibly a detrimental one for accuracy.
I was doing quite of lot of research last couple nights, and in talking with my FFL buddy, I think I might go ahead and build one. I kind of like the idea of the billet uppers and lowers, magpul stock, and probably a 20" SS barrel. Haven't decided on which trigger to go with yet or the optics, though.
Initially, I thought it was a horrid excuse for a sporting gun.
After mounting a Baush & Lomb 2.5-10x40 glass atop it, and sighting it in for him using the Black Hills Ammo 60 Gr. Hornady V-MAX, I started thinking otherwise.
Now, I want one. I'm more of a bolt-rifleman, but for those times when they come in groups of three or more, the AR platform makes a lot of sense.

What are you using for sights/optics?
Right now I have a JP trigger that my gunsmith buddy tweaked for me, and I am using a Burris Euro Diamond 3x12x50 for my optic. I like this scope because it has the 30mm tube, and it works great for low light shots.
I had my DPMS custom built, and I only spent $750 for it!

A Burris scope, like this here one, on the AR-10?
The other rifle is a Colt's lower with a locally made Double-Star Expedition upper, EOTech sight with GG&G back-up irons co-witnessed to it. Good for vermin and goblins, but not the best for coyotes.

Very similar to that scope. That is the Burris Black Diamond. The big difference is that the Black Diamond has the parallax adjustment, and the Euro Diamond does not.

The owner builds the best AR-15 rifles hands down. If you have a buck or two you will not regret it.
Here is more advice. If you are shooting coyotes from a distance get a barrel with a 1:7 twist. This allows you to shoot a heavier bullet which A. Is more accurate in wind and B. Will hit larger prey harder. The slower the twist rate, such as a 1:9, the more accurate lighter bullets will be.
Now. I reload so I do not know how available hunting ammo is for a 77grain bullet which is what I shoot out to 300 yards. I shot a 80grain bullet at 600 yards.
Just check around for ammunition if you do not reload and make sure you can purchase ammunition with a heavier bullet. You will not regret shooting heavier bullets especially in wind at long distances.
I have a Colt that I picked up at the Rod and Gun Club while stationed in germany in '87. It's a AR15A2 and paid only $485. The rifle is like a Titan, you got to MOD it....but you have to keep the original parts in order for it to hold value.
