Re: Hog

Also im my opinion, Cruelty to animals stops when you are just killing them to eat or for population control. The good Lord put these animals here to feed us.

Re: Hog

Right on Helo!
If I had some land I would do the same and also raise my own cattle. I hate chickens and the mess they make so I won't go there though!

We are going hunting with him on friday night, but I will take my 357 with me. I'd rather not get that close and personal with those tusks!
I know people that do this also. I think it's crazy! I would definitely take a rifle or gun. Hogs are mean destructive animals. Pretty dangerous to go with just a knife and dogs. That's a hunter right there, lol.

Do you think that it's less "cruel" eating meat that comes from the supermarket? Have you ever seen a feed lot full of cattle or other animals that are being raised for human consumption? If you have then you know that it's not a very pretty sight. They stand shoulder to shoulder in their own excrement, shot full of steroids and antibiotics. I'm not saying that is wrong, it's neccessary to supply the market with meat. Heck I even eat pork and beef from the supermarket somtimes. But for me I prefer the "free range" variety.
I agree wild hogs dont have all the preservatives or setroids in them . trapping a animal is more natural then buying food at the store. it has been goin on since the begining of time when stores werent developed yet. survival

Re: Hog

Catch and release is a good thing for the Bass population. Bass are the most popular fresh water game fish in America. If folks didn't practice good catch and release practices Bass would probably be on the endanger species list. I really don't care if it hurts them are not, it is fun to catch them and every now and then it's nice to throw one in the frying pan. To everyone reading this thread please practice good catch and release techniques, but fell free to keep a few every now and then for the supper table.

Re: Hog

Some of these folks obviously haven't seen the damage a sounder of feral hogs can do to a planted field in just one night. Acres of crops can become worthless. Crops that might otherwise feed people, animals, or even quench our thirsty flex fuel Titans.

I would also submit that some of these folks don't know how quickly feral hogs can multiply. My farmer relatives don't raise crops to have them feed feral hogs. Doesn't bother me in the least to have fewer of them out there.

Re: Hog

Wow! Tofu? Honda? That's a low blow! LOL!!

Hey, people want to hunt for food and eat what they kill. Great and fine. But if it's just a matter of that, then why are we posting pics on the internet boasting about what we killed. Sounds like a stereotypical male ego that needs to be stroked. Showing it to others trivializes "their" supposed actual purpose. I'm sure Cletus and Billy Joe Bob will find some way to refute this, but hey I call it like I see it.
I seem to be coming off as a bleeding heart granola tree hugger who cares about the "feelings" of animals. FYI, i'm not. Like I said, if people want to hunt because they feel they need to/want to to survive, I have no problem with that. It's when they act all proud of their kill and show it off. I love the outdoors, fishing, camping, hiking, and do spend a great deal of time in the outdoors and am concerned about food chains and the environment. I just think the bragging of hunting exploits glorifies the killing part of hunting more than the reason for the hunting (food).
Some may say, "Act like a man." I say, I already am.

Alrighty then. Just the fact that people want to show off their "kill" speaks volumes. I'm done with this thread.
