That does it.
Next time I go fishing I am taking my gun.
Actually, I did see this once. A drunk guy got into a spat with another fisherman over whose Salmon it was (the non-drunk guy caught it legitimately, and as he was fighting it, the drunk guys line got tangled into things and they both landed it). When the sober guy argued that he's the one who hooked it and refused to hand over the Salmon, the drunk pulled out a pistol and took a pot shot at the guy!! Thank God he missed! Three other fisherman tackled the guy and someone called the police. In minutes, the DEC officers were there and had the guy in cuffs. Scary stuff!
As for using them on the fish. On days they aren't biting I think this might be the only way to get them lol!!

-I'm not judging the idea of hunting for food and population control. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT.
- My beef is with those who pretend this is their motivation, yet their only true concern is putting up the next stuffed head on the wall.
Well I've done a lot of fishing in my time both for fun and for a living and it doesn't take much evidence to know it's true. Some of the cuts the line causes can become diseased, cuts get infected, damage to the fish being taken out of the water and removal of the hooks can cause internal damage. Sometimes the line damages the gills, etc. some fish are considered "junk" and are thrown away, er, caught and released despite their injuries. I've found fish dead in streams that have been obvious victims of catch and release that should have been kept.
We all have problems with people who abuse their sport whether it be hunting, fishing, baseball.
Poaching and killing just for numbers is ridiculous, same as using explosives to "fish".
Been fun "fishing" with you, but I gotta go to a football game and watch some rather large, fast, knuckle draggers beat the crap out of each other.
