I have hunted unit 22 south of Meeker for 14 years. You may get 75 and sunny or 15 degrees and snowing, so plan for both. I use a 30.06 for my elk and deer and it has never let me down

Re: Elk hunting in Meeker, Colorado

I go elk hunting every year in Idaho, and I prefer to use a magnum rifle. I have always been a big fan of the .300 Win and the .338 Win, but this year I am going to try the .325 WSM. I have a good friend who loves a .308, but for me I love the magnums.

Bring a nice pair of binoculars, one, tow, or three good knives, a knife sharpener, and a smaller bone saw.

I also bring some forresters tape him me, either bright yellow or orange, to tie around the antlers on way down the mountain.

Get a nice pair of boots, and some quality boot socks.

Good luck and be safe!
