I'm looking at a Carolina Skiff JVX20 (in white). Base model no frills with a 90hp 2 stroke yamaha. I know they are reliable boats, cant sink em', shallow draft good for inshore fishing, 20' long so I can go a couple miles offshore.
That looks like a light weight boat!!! Might be kinda scarey if you are several miles out in the ocean and the waves get big or a big storm pops up!!!
not several, just a couple miles! I really just want something economical to play with. I live on the Ga coast right know and there are miles and miles of creeks and rivers to fish in. Off shore's not really my thing, I'll do it on occasion but I dont want a boat for that right now.
Carolina skiffs are great boats, many of my freinds have them and have taken them well past the barrier islands in Louisiana. They won't sink, so as long as you don't flip it it will get you back in. It might not be the best ride, but they will make it back. One of my friends has the 24 foot, with a 250 on the back and that thing flies.
The hull is 850lbs, that means rough ride if you get in some serious chop. Thats a good all around fishing boat and that does not include going off shore. Sure you can so it but be carefull. I like that over any ''Bay Boat'' made that's for for sure. I know the it's rated for 90MAX HP but I wonder if can get a 115 put on there. If not check Yamaha's specs on the 115 and 90 and the displacement may be the same. With some carb tuning/rejeting you can turn in to a 115, maybe.
I don't know prices but take a look at the Pro Line boats. I almost traded my bass boat in at the last boat show on sweet Pro Line. But common sense out ruled my lust for a new boat with payments.
Good luck.

Better to have a Titan than a Loose'n

I'm thinking gas milege wise, I'll stick with a 90h but I wanna get the E-Tec 2 stroke DFI. My buddy has that motor and its smooth!
If the boat is rated for 90, you can't put on a 115. Isn't that against the law? I was under the impression that it's not a suggested maximum HP, it's an actual "law."
Pro Lines are made right where I used to live, in Crystal River, FL. They're nice boats.
Like I said before though, if you need to go SHALLOW go with the flats cat. It'll go a few miles offshore no problem and it'll go in the flats where no other boats can... except for air boats. My dad bought his flats cat a few years ago and since then about 5 people that have gone fishing with him have ending up buying one themselves. They're that good.

Flats cats are pretty good, but I have pulled one out before with my go-devil. He was about to burn up his motor. Some boats don't have any ratings, my go-devil didn't it had a tag that said something about coast gaurd exempt commercial use. Can't remember the exact wording.
wow, that go-devil thing is pretty crazy. never seen one before.
You live in Florida and never seen a go-devil? They are awesome, I had one for about 5 years and have never been stuck. I would jump the dam behind my house with it, and the dam is about 25 feet wide and about 4 feet tall.
