I'll be going camping in about a week for a 3-day weekend which is much needed! It'll just be the lady and I sans little one so we can enjoy a little break, and well... infants and atv's just don't seem to mix.
I did some searching last night and found a kick *** bed tent that puts the OEM to shame. I'm not sure if we've lost our spot in my friends pop-up so it might be a consideration to keep us off the mud. check it out here: http://www.enelcompany.com any feed back would be great... Sure it'll hit the pockets but I figure this is an anual thing... and the lady is buying!! (I'm still not sure why she has money and I never do, I guess she's doing something right!)
So, if we opt to camp in the bed:
what do you sleep on? I've seen some cot set-ups as well as air matresses. I'm not sure which way to go. I had thought about bringing some blocks taking my alum. ramps and laying that over the blocks then pumping up the air mattress.. please share any thoughts.
Heating will also be an issue. I have umpteen propain cansiters that screw onto the coleman tent heater. it goes fro about 7 hours and kept us warm in the last tent adventure. Know of anything better?
Canoe. My buddy has a canoe and asked me to haul it up. I've noticed that most guys with canoes have different set ups then the OEM Overhead racks. Any suggestions there? I believe it's a coleman canoe.. probably 16' or maybe 20'.
Finally WOMEN! She's coming and will have to pee... We've used a "honey bucket" in the past, but there will be other girls there too. Me, I piss and **** in the woods, when I have to go, there is no stopping me, however, girls are wired differently... And I'm not sure they poop. What have you done to accomodate the ladies? There is a farmhouse my buddies parent's own, but first morning pee in 40* @ 40 mph is chilly, and bumpy!
Sounds and looks like you guys will have a blast. As far as tents in the bed go, I have the one that was made for the Titan. It fits like a glove and really has a ton of room. You can check it out at: http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...e=999T7-A60120
It's a bit cheaper than the one you were looking at, and I don't know how that tent will actually fit the Titan... It's definitely a good purchase!!

I have the adventure tent. It is a great tent!! I got mine at Cabelas for less than $150. I have the 6.5' bed, don't know if that makes a difference. I wouldn't want to be in a tent with flame, I just use a -15 bag on an air mattress I got at Sam's club, never been cold.
As for the latrine Check Cabelas, I know they have camp toilets that have a little tent with it.
I'm still not sold on the bed tent idea. It looks cool and all but I'd rather not break down my tent every time I go somewhere in the truck. If I used a bed tent I might get an air mattress and an electric inflator. That'll give you a good excuse to use the 12V outlet in the bed. A possible advantage to a cot would be extra storage under it.
If she's that concerned about the potty (can't believe I said potty) arrangements, get her a camp toilet and bring some tarps to make her a "bathroom". Get a rug so it'll be carpeted. Fix it up with a paper holder, baby wipes (or a sink), a mirror, and some candles for night use. Have fun with it.
and on a side note, I picked up a 12V Air Pump at Harbor Freight a few weeks back for like $3!!! And I got a sweet deal on an air mattress at the Coleman outlet store, it's like 18" thick! More comfortable than my bed actually.
I'm not crazy about the bed tent idea either. Reasons: I'm 6'7" tall, that explains itself, put up/tear down if you want to go some where, probably easier to just put up a regular tent which also equals more room, haven't had good experiences sleeping in the bed of a truck. Example: ATV poker run, camping night before, terrible rainstorm, slept in bed under tonneau, with garbage bags over my legs/feet which were hanging out over the tailgate!!! LOL
still unsure of the final set up... thanks for the responces though.
as it turns out we'll probably call the local port-o-potty guy and have him drop off a unit and a foot pump sink, that'll take care of the ladies. we've done this once before for the halloween party last year, it worked out great.
as far as break-down goes, i agree with the travel limitations but generally once set up the only thing i drive is the atv or one of the farm trucks.. so it's not that big of a concern. just have to bring enough food and beer!
Saliavin, do you think cabela's has a better deal then the manufacture? i found the website... wouldn't mind a better deal, have to shop around... anything you didn't like about it? how did it look after you took it down, any body damage?
i like the cot idea, but i'm 5'10, the bed is 5'7, with the gate down it's maybe another 12-18" worth of space so it shouldn't be to tight. the cots i looked up are spec'd at 76"... needless to say i'll be mocking up some options tonight!
tent is ordered and should be here by thursday (i hope and was promised it would be by the guy that designed it) he was also nice enough to let me chew his ear on a few other things, tent colors, sleeping set-ups, etc. great guy, sounds like a great product as well.
bed situation is figured out: 3" piece of nasa memory foam. as it turns out my girl had a piece of it at her parent's house that used to on her bed... free!!!we're going to lay down a few pieces of cardboard to make the truck bed level and a bit more insulated as well as my 40*+ sleeping bag. i also have some 0-15* sleeping bags we'll be in, hopefully this will be enough. there will also be the standard tent heater to warm things up before bed and in the morning before that cold walk outside to water the trees.
atv is running great... really looking forward to a weekend away from everything!

Sounds like you have it figured out now, but i was going to suggest ditching the Air mattress. They are about as comfortable as sleeping on the bare truck bed.
I have had success in camping trips past with putting a futon mattress in the bed. The texture is right, and it is small enough to fit inside with the tailgate closed (for those of us that can't afford a tent, and opt instead for a tarp.
As for keeping warm...See 54's post...I think you'll figure it out.
we are ditching the air mattress, but i'll bring it just incase, some one always forgets something.... infact i was mocking up things this weekend (yeah i know, who mocks up camping ****?) and pulled the inflated air mattress out of my bed when it got hung up on my bed extender cleat and ripped.. d'oh. i was scrambling for a piece of foam and we ended up lucking out finding piece of it and saving 300 bucks!
i bought a patch kit for the air matress if needed. i think we should do fine. last time we used the air mattress and slept on the ground it would deflate with changes in temperature, which really sucks!
went camping and didn't end up using the tent we purchased. we got to the site in the rain and just opted to sleep on the extra bed in my buddies pop up. saturday came and didn't see much sense in setting it up just for one night, bummer.
I'd never get my chick out camping at this time of year. By the time the temps plummet into the mid 80's she's got the flannel sheets and electric blanket out.

That's why she's MY chick! She really loves the quad and camping, canoeing, the whole 9. Wasn't hard to convince her at all. I did have to spend some dough on sub 30 sleeping bags for us and a tent heater but we didn't end up using the heater at all, lucked out with the pop up!
