New gun safe-in an inexpensive way

I really needed to better secure my guns, but didnt want to spend 500-1000$. Been searching, and finally saw this 14 gun case at Walmart for just 150$. Mounted it in a small closet, after changing the door knob for a dead bolt. I strengthed the frame screws but left the cheap door. Safe is screwed into the studs and has no/ little room to pry the door or the safe itself.

If I was a burgler I would go for that door fist because it has a dead bolt on it....I would think it has the good stuff in it because of the lock.

I agree, but I wanted to slow them down as much as possible. Would you leave the regular knob? Wont they just fling open every door anyways?

Mach whas at boy up err on the top shelf?
looks like a fine piece of machinery.

I like the install, need to get one myself with kids on the way. I will still keep one in reach in the bedroom though, just don't want some lowlife stealing the whole set.

Top shelf = 22 magnum
Bed Side = H and K 40 cal (very reliable, easy to shoot when sleepy)
Office or Car Trips = 9mm High Point (less reliable, but I shouldn't be sleepy and Pistol is inexpensive in case of damage/ rust/ dropped/ etc.)

Might also want to check with your insurance agent about adding a specific policy on the guns and/or electronics...might be at no additional cost, might be just a few bucks...but you register serial numbers and values (inflated, of course) of all the weapons, then it's a much easier issue if it ever comes time to collect...also a good idea to have the serials for the authorities if the guns grow legs, especially the handguns.

Took pics and adder the firearm rider to the policy. DIDNT record the ser #s- good reminder. Maybe Ill just use dig camera and pic them.

Looks similiar to my set up.....My safe is too small for all my toys now....

Need a bigger safe but closets are too small....

.22? That's disappointing. I was hoping for .357.
Bed side is a Kimber CDPII .45 for me, with night sites.

Doesn't matter what you shoot as long as you can shoot it accurately.

I have a pretty good size closet in my spare bedroom. I am looking at a getting a solid core door and heavy duty hinges with a dead bolt. Then bolt the cabinet to the studs like that. +
Its not fire proof but I am more worried about my stuff growing legs and my little nephew finding it.
When you take pics of your guns and stuff be sure to keep a copy on the computer, a seperate disk, and actual pics. This way if someone takes your computer and all of your CDs and disks you have another set.

Somewhat off-topic but relates to the last post...

I subscribed to Carbonite about 6 months ago, and gave it as a gift to my in-laws...it has saved my rear end already in a big way.

Carbonite (and others like it) is a remote, online backup system for your computer. If your computer burns, all cd's burn, extra hard drive burns, etc., all your information is still safe with whomever you subscribed with. Unlimited storage space, and once you set it up, it's automatic. 50 bucks a year, and worth much more.
