Any G. Loomis fans

Any Gloomis fans? Started using the GLX SJR rods and the Sustain Shimano spin reels and LOVE them. Also have a GLX HSR9000 3 piece. They are so comfortable.

How do you guys store rods in the titan when fishing from shore - Any secure mounts you like?

I haven't bought any G Loomis rods but have fished with a few. Nice rod and reel combo you got.

Personally, I tend to put my money in higher quality bait casting reels and rods for my musky gear, and cheap out on the spinning gear. I have 9 rod and reel combos, four of which are Shimano Calcutta TE reels, the rest of the spinning gear in the Spirex quality level. Most of my rods are 7' or 7' 6". I am hard on rods and tend to replace them about every three years.

Storing rods for me is in the boat. That was one beef I had when I was shopping for the Titan is that a long bed wasn't available until this year. If I were to store rods for transport, I would probably rig up something using a PVC tube with a slot cut to allow the spinning reel to slide in. If your rod is longer than the bed, there isn't a good way to secure the rod from theft.

The other consideration would be to make a rod mount that utilizes the bottom Utilitrack channels. You can get some jig knobs from a woodworking supply place so that you can easily tighten them down.

Re: Any G. Loomis fans

I never learned to fish baitcasting reels and it is like using two left thumbs for me now. I bet it would be much nicer using them but I just can't get the feel for it. I have tried a few times in my adult life but in the end I go with what I know.

Does T-Track hardware fit the C-Channel on the titan? If so I am hooked up. Rockler sells their hardware/T-track combos for half price a couple times a year and one year I think I bought six and they shipped about 12. Made a shopnotes clamp holder that used a bunch of the track. I have all the left over hardware packs.

I have a few of them. I just won a new GLX from the tournament club that I am in for catching the biggest bass of the year. But my favorite combo is the 6'8 Medium GLX with my Shimano Chronarch. It is a nice smooth dependable set up.

T-track will be too small. Some options would be to make your own metal inserts for the track, drill a hole and tap it. The other consideration would be to contact Truxedo to see if they would sell you a clamp kit for the utilitrack channels. From there, you can then make your own rod holder rig.

As for the baitcaster, try the Calcutta DE digital reel. It does a nice job of controlling back lash. Line makes a big difference in bait casters. Try Spiderwire Ultracast on a bait caster. As for the spinning reels, I religiously use Fireline to improve casting distance. Lasts much longer than Power Pro and less breakage in my experience. For all around fishing, I usually use a 14 lb test/ 6 lb diameter line as a good balance for strength and casting distance.

Lastly, one thing I like to do to reduce line twist is to let out bare line without any hardware tied on, and move the boat forward until the line is completely spooled off. Then drag the line for a few minutes while motoring forward and then reel in the line. The line will twist straight and the drag from the water will pack the spool more snug and even. I do this each time I put on new line with both the baitcasters and spinning gear. It significantly reduces line problems down the road.

Re: Any G. Loomis fans

I bought a few G.Loomis 7ft spinning rods at a garage sale for $2.00. The eyes were busted and one had a tip broke right under the eye. I put new eyes them and gave them to my Dad. He likes them.

I use nothing but baitcasters and I like plenty but with the newer anti reverse spinning reels I have switched back with no complaints. I have some casters that haven't been in the boat in 2-3 years.

Re: Any G. Loomis fans

as far as transporting....i used the plastic rod holders mounted through the utilitrac gate.....no holes had to be drilled,...2 bolts, 2 nuts and 4 washers through the gate and thats it.....if you need to remove them it doesnt leave any holes

I would about choke if I saw G Loomis rods for $2. They have a lifetime warranty and can be replaced for $50 even if the breakage is your fault. I won a $350 GLX HSR9000-3 3-piece rod that was broken on ebay for $50. I called G Loomis and paid the $50 and advanced exchanged it. The new rod and ebay arrived the same day. Put the ebay rod in the return packaging to Gloomis and it went back out teh same day. Awesome deal for the $100. That was my first GLX - owned an IMX SJR720 before that. Now own two other GLX rods SJR721 and SJR783-2.

Re: Any G. Loomis fans

bloomintonmike I know they are costly and was not aware of any lifetime warranty. I enjoyed doing the repairs myself and they made a good father's day gift. My Dad would rather have used rod that I repaired that any fancy new one.

But if you shop the garage sales you will be a mazed at what you can find, not all ways but steals and deals are out there.
