KILLED an 8 point in Va

Well I JUST got back from my trip to Va. It was a blast, I got to see alot of family that lives up there AND hunt. I shot this buck on my great uncle's farm the 2nd evening we hunted, which was Saturday, with a little help from the beagle (Jack) in one of the pictures. He's not huge by any means, but he's the biggest Buck I've ever shot. He's an 8 pointer, 168lbs; he's a decent buck for the area. Shot him from like 65 yards with the old faithful Remington Wingmaster 12 gauge, dropped him dead in his tracks. Well anyways, here are the pictures.

Nice looking deer! Good to see other people are having a successful season unlike me . Ah well. Looks like the beagle is a little intimidated in that picture .

Yeah he's always been a really skiddish dog. He's 4 years old and this is the first year he'd even let me touch him. lol. He just doesn't like strangers at all.

Very nice deer!!! Congrats to ya.
I went this morning hoping the bucks would be running does. I did see a pretty nice six point that I almost pulled the trigger on but i'm still waiting on the "bigun."

Patience my friend, let them 6's go. It will pay off. Atleast until closer to the end of the season.

Oh so that's how it goes, huh?

When I left your place the other day, I was less than .5 mile away on 50 and almost hit one doe in the road with another doe and, yes, a fawn, trying to cross from the field to the left of me, coming out of the woods near that big cleared field that's across the road on the right.

I see almost as many deer driving from your place than we saw all weekend hunting, 10 does and not one buck.

Wait til next year!

Yep, that's pretty much the way it goes.........you see em where they're standing, lol.

I saw the six-point after I got out of my stand and was just walking around. He was following a doe, so hopefully things are going to pick up.

In the summer, late in the evening it's not uncommon to see 10 or more deer in that big field on the right. I've even heard that their are a few turkeys around.

And yes, theirs always next year.

You guys are talking like the season is over. You still have over a month left of the season right?

Yeah there is plenty of time to kill one yet. That's why I didn't pull the trigger this morning, i'm only allowed one more buck, I may try to kill a doe during the M/L or Archery season as I haven't killed a doe yet. We almost have enough meat in the freezer to last untill next season and the wife wants to go a couple more times so i'm sure there will be some more opportunities.

The first segment of rifle season ends this Sunday, followed by a week of muzzleloader which is followed by another week of archery. then rifle season re-opens on Dec. 15th and runs into January.

I've been hunting since Sept. and starting to get a little burned out. [I can't believe I said that, lol] I feel that our seasons run a little to long which makes it hard for alot of the bucks that I have passed on to make it till next year because most hunters around here have the "if it's brown it's down" mentality.

Re: KILLED an 8 point in Va

Yeah that's a darn fine buck right there. That will look good on the wall, no doubt.

While you were in VA I took a weekend away from Georgia and hunted in your back yard.
