Yes both my boys got their first doe this year. My oldest son shot his the day after my younest boy did. In the same stand too. I posted some pics of both of them in this section. It is probably pretty far back by now.

Oh that's awesome, I must've missed it! It's great that you're getting them involved at a young age!
Here are some pics of it right after built it, I have modified the door trigger since then. I made a step on door trigger that works better than the rope going across the trap that I used to have. This trap has caught 6 hogs since I built it.
Dang nice lookin trap helo! How does the door work, I've never seen one like that?
I made a release that looks like the letter F, and I hooked a cable to it and ran it along the side of the cage through some pulleys. Then I ran it under a peice of plywood and then to the other side of the cage. When the step on the plywood it pulls the release down and a spring pulls the door shut. More hogs can enter the trap after the door is closed, but they can't get back out. Here is a pic of the first hogs I ever caught in my trap. This pic was taken before I refined the trigger, in this pic I was just using a stick to prop the door open, and had some bailing wire tied to the stick like a trip wire.
That's a pretty sweet setup! We just use the whole piece of plywood that's tied up then when they trip it , it slides down. It works, but dang your trap is a great idea!

Thanks, it cost me about 250 bucks to build it, and about 2 days worth of time. The time came from welding each of those wires on the hog panel to the frame. I had the frame built in a few hours. I have been giving some thought to building them and selling them in my spare time.

Yeah I bet you could sell them, the only kind I've ever seen is with the sliding door which means once they trip it no more can come in. People sell the ones with the sliding doors for $400, so I'm sure you could sell those for a decent amount. I just build them out of wood, then nail the wire like you have which is pretty quick, easy and inexpensive because people steal traps like crazy around here.

The 4 hogs in that one pic where trying to tear the trap up, if it had been made as strong I think they would have succeded. If a 400lb ever gets in there he may do some damage, but I don't think he could break out.
