Re: Start Fishing

I sure wish I was back in the south. I never stopped fishing when I lived in Arkansas or Florida. I still have about another month or so before it will be nice enough to fish here in New Mexico. Need to get some good snow melt going bring the lake levels up a good 10-12 feet and it will be on.

Re: Start Fishing

Whenever I get a free weekend, I'm fishing. Never really quit, but don't get to many weekends off during the school year. Can't wait until summer when I don't have to go to work and can fish all day, every day.

Re: Start Fishing

Unfourtunately it'll be a couple of months...gotta wait for the thaw before I can hit the rivers around here and slay some rainbows...but at least we can still catch halibut and winter king salmon out on the ocean still, I'm just more of a land-lover. Especially this time of year, way too cold and rough to be on the open water

Re: Start Fishing

I never really stop fishing due to weather, bur I have had to take some breaks here and there over the last few years due to vehicle launches, moving houses, my sister's wedding, and of course, football season. Seriously, I've been fishing more since December than I have been the last 6 years combined since graduating from college. I've unloaded the crappie from my freezer 2 times since I started fishing for crappie down here again in December, and I finally decided to buy a freezer for the storage room because of the overflow and having to store fish heads for a couple of days until garbage day.

Both my dad and I agree that today is about the last time that the crappie can be caught along the banks until next spawn on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Oh well, I guess that I'm enjoying it while I can since I'll probably be too busy with the LCV to be able to go fishing next year. It sure has been nice fishing every weekend and once or twice during the week after work.

BTW--I caught 18 crappie with 8 of them being big. Prior to today, I had been limiting out, but the most big fish had been 6 or 7 until today. I had to leave because of the d@mn skiers, people on pleasure boats, and jet ski's running too close to my fishing area, causing me to nearly fall into the water while trying to net my 18th fish and scaring the fish away. Oh well, at least the scenery staring around 10:00 a.m. has been nice.
