Its a $200 tax stamp, usually on a form 5320.4, for a title II weapon. However, if transferring from out of state, sometimes you will have to pay an additional $200 tax to transfer it to your local Class III dealer.

No, not all the AR15s are made to military specs by the companies mentioned above. Obviously not all are select fire, Colts sometimes have different sized pins or dias blocks, and of course you can get so many different configurations that aren't even close to mil-spec.

If wanting a rifle, best bang for the buck-- buy a Stag in pieces (like a complete upper, stripped lower, lower parts kit, buttstock, and a couple magazines), which will save you some $$$ and avoid the FET.

If wanting collectability: Colt (especially if it doesn't have a DIAS block).

All are pretty good though.

Since I'm a little novice on this stuff...Any recommendations on manufacturer or similar weapon???

Full auto firearms are not illegal here in pa. You just need to get the license which will run you some serious dough then the guns will cost you some more of that serious dough. I have a family friend that has a M4 that's full auto with the three round burst it cost 14k and a full auto thompson street sweeper that is chambered for .45acp it cost 11k.

I also own a DPMS and a Rock River you can't go wrong with either of them or anyothers listed above. There is also so much aftermarket out there you can build one with all the best parts for around 1400. My uncle did that and his AR shoots better than he can.

This setup will give you the most fun, and its cheap to shoot. (.22LR)

Optic and laser/light make it a bit over the top, price-wise...

WOW Energizer.....That is just plain sweeeeet! I watched another special on the M16 and it's evolution yesterday. I can't wait to find a good deal on an AR15. THis doeas however seem like you said...A lot of fun and a cheap shoot. This may make more sense. I was looking for more of a piece of art/history but shooting is so much of a blast that i may start with something like this .22cal

Drop me an IM if you want to know how to build one... I'd order the upper from a place that built mine (I had them cut the barrel to that length so it looked cool). They make them with a dedicated .22LR barrel instead of having a chamber adapter. Also, with a .22LR, you don't need a buffer tube... which makes for a smaller setup. You can build the lower yourself-- just get a stripped pistol lower shipped to your FFL.

I shoot the hell out of this, and rarely clean it, just to see how long I can go before it jams... .22LR sometimes causes hiccups, but its easily remedied and $9.88/550rds makes up for it

Also, if you go the pistol route, you can always convert it to a legal rifle (barrel 16+ inches, buttstock, certain OAL, etc.) and legal pistol. Just don't make it into an AOW or SBR by accident though...

You can also make a 9mm or a .223/5.56mm pistol-- several calibers to choose from actually. They are fun to shoot, but with ammo prices going up, I rarely shoot mine. If you keep the buffer tube, its just a matter of swapping uppers to make a new pistol (or rifle) (except 9mm needs a slight modification to the bolt, or switch out the hammer each time, and add a drop in magazine block (several styles to choose from)).

I can tell you this, besides for investment purposes, I think full auto is overrated. I have way more fun shooting my pistols than full auto. Besides, you can learn to shoot semi auto almost as fast, sometimes faster (depends on what you compare with), than full auto, and it can be more accurate and conserves ammo.

You can build a fine AR for $600. Check out DEL-TON before you build.

Where you spend the most $$$$ is all the tactical goodies you hang on the rifle once it's built.

My last build: Stag lower w/6 position stock, Armalite 16 inch HBAR upper and a few extra small add-ons. $650

Re: AR-15- Bushmaster or Colt?

the flash made this one fade a bit, but its more of a hunter orange... I want to get some black & decker "firestorm" stickers for it...

this was a good friend of mine's. I put a package together and we gave it to him for a Christmas gift several years back, with concealed toolbox, etc. I ended up buying it back from the family after he passed away.

Nice AR's. Here's my S&W M&P wearing Knight's Armament rail covers on a UTG quad rail and a junky boolsheyat Leaper's Scope.

I grew uo on AR's and something I never knew until my little jarhead brother showed me: You can drop the lower guard on the trigger by pushing the spring loaded forward detent.....allowing the user to fire with mittens on in cold weather environs. I was too busy sniping snapping turtles to notice that part.

That scope probably gets the job done for average use... its better than nothing.

As for the trigger guard-- use a .223/5.56mm bullet to push the button. The gun is designed for this-- like opening the trap door on an A2 buttstock, adjusting the front site post, pushing the take-down pins, opening the trigger guard, etc.

It looks like your gun has accessory mounts all around, but you have your TLR sitting in front of your optics?

Its a reflex sight. You use both eyes. You can block the optic entirely and it still works, much like several of the red-dot optics. You can still see out of part of it too. I place it there on all my ARs like this, upside down, for thumb control operation. My thumb can turn on and off the laser or light, and adjust the polarized filter on the optic.

If it had magnification, it wouldn't really matter either, but this one is 1x.

Also, the TLR/2 is a laser and flashlight and both the optic and laser are easily removed or added, as needed. Both are sighted in perfectly though.
